The annual New York By Rail Day will run from 7:30am-4:00pm in the Amtrak rotunda at New York’s Penn Station. A free consumer travel show featuring 30+ travel and tourist destinations, hotels, attractions, historic railroads and outdoor adventures from throughout New York State and Vermont
THE 10th ANNUAL NEW YORK BY RAIL MAGAZINE Amtrak’s® annual travel and destination guide for travel between New York City, Vermont and Canada WILL BE AVAILABLE FREE FOR ALL ATTENDEES.
Two very special sections, a 32 page insert promoting I Love New York’s new Path Through History tourism initiative and an 8 page insert from New York State Canals will also be showcased.
Concurrent with the publication of the NYBR magazine WWW.NEWYORKBYRAIL.COM web site is being re-launched as the exclusive destination and travel services web site for New York State Amtrak travel.
AS PART OF THE 8th ANNUAL NEW YORK BY RAIL DAY AT NEW YORK CITY’S PENN STATION ANNIVERSARY CAKE & LIGHT LUNCHEON WILL BE SERVED AT 12NOON IN THE ROTUNDA.
Martinelli’s Publication of New York By Rail Magazine was launched by Martinelli Custom Publishing in 2004 on behalf of Amtrak with the objective of stimulating train travel on Amtrak to visit the 26 destinations serviced by Amtrak throughout New York State, the 8 in Canada and 12 in Vermont. 175,000 copies of the publication are printed annually and given to Amtrak for distribution onboard New York State Amtrak trains, at Amtrak stations throughout New York State, New York State Thruway Information Centers and other means within the travel industry.
Amtrak has had a record year for ridership in 2012 including the upswing in ridership on the Empire Corridor. The New York Albany route witnessed a jump of nearly 4 percent, and the State- supported Adirondack route saw an increase of over 5 percent since 2012.

BP MARKOWITZ SEEKING BOROUGH VETS OF OPERATION DESERT STORM TO CARRY BROOKLYN FLAG DAMAGED IN 1991 LIBERATION OF KUWAIT

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is calling on Brooklyn veterans of Operation Desert Storm—particularly vets of the 102nd Maintenance Company of the Army National Guard—to carry a special Brooklyn flag in New York City’s Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 11. The 102nd Maintenance Company—“The Pride of Brooklyn”—carried the flag during the campaign to liberate Kuwait 20 years ago. During battle, the flag sustained damage when an American Patriot missile hit an Iraqi Scud missile over the position held by the 102nd, causing molten metal to rain down on the flag. The flag is displayed in the Rotunda at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

BP Markowitz will present the flag to an appropriate group for inclusion in this year’s parade. The United War Veterans Council of New York, organizers of the Veterans Day Parade, has reserved a place of honor for these veterans in the march next month.

Brooklyn vets of Operation Desert Storm and the 102nd Maintenance Company of the Army National Guard interested in participating are asked to call the United War Veterans at 212-843-9367.
