“At a time of division and despair, Linda Seger reminds us of essential human values shared by all: humanity, respect and ensuring a better, safer world for our children. This book builds a bridge for people with different political and religious beliefs.” – Congressman Steve Israel (2001-2017)

In this provocative and insightful book, Jesus Rode A Donkey: Why Millions of Christians Are Democrats (Clovercroft Publishing May5th, Trade Paperback, 253 pages, ISBN: 978-1950892143, $16.99), author Dr. Linda Seger, a theologian and a Quaker, explores what it means to be a Christian and a Democrat as we approach a sure-to-be historic 2020 election.

“Being Christian and a Democrat are not mutually exclusive,”asserts Seger, Th.D. “My book reveals the close relationship between Democratic policy and Jesus’ teachings and the many ways in which the values Jesus espouses in the Bible correspond to the values Democrats call their own.”

The idea that American Christians vote strictly Republican crumbles as readers peruse Seger’s careful study of both parties’ platforms. Jesus Rode A Donkey reminds the reader that Jesus and the prophets had a radical, progressive message that calls individuals and nations to feed the hungry, help the poor, heal the sick, free the oppressed, and to love our enemies. The Democrats embrace these values.

“The public needs to understand that Republicans do not have the corner on Christ,” says Dr. Seger. “They have actually lost their moral authority and moral compass since 2016 by not speaking out against unchristian, immoral behavior from our government.”

If you’re unsure about which party and which policies best express your values, perhaps this book will bring you some clarity about who you are, what you believe as a citizen of our country and of our world, and what actions you can take to help create a society that is an expression of God’s grace, the love of Christ, and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Seger, Th.D., holds three master’s degrees, as well as a Th.D. in theology and drama. She is the author of 16 books and has given seminars and speeches in 33 countries around the world. Raised a 1950s Republican and a Lutheran, her political and religious evolution led her to become a Democrat and a Quaker. She is a born-again Christian, was a fundamentalist and evangelical for several years. In one way or another, she has been associated with the Southern Baptists, United Church of Christ, Lutheran, Methodist and Presbyterian churches. She serves on the board of Christian Democrats in America. She has also been a county caucus chair and has served as a delegate for the Colorado county and state Democratic Convention.

Dr. Seger believes our nation is in the midst of a moral crisis, and notes that Democrats of late have been more willing to speak up about their faith and have been more willing to look at the crisis in our government through their moral and ethical faith perspectives.

Jesus Rode A Donkey is a well-researched, soul-searching, and clear-eyed look at America’s Christian values and how they impact policy. It also makes a strong case that the Democratic platform clearly reflects Christian values.

Today’s automotive technology goes far beyond advanced navigation systems and improved airbags. New features such as smart headlights, blind spot warning and reverse monitoring systems are revolutionizing the way we drive. And the latest high-tech options are not only for the gadget obsessed – they have the potential to positively impact drivers ages 50+.

In fact, a new study from the MIT AgeLab found that while just over one third of mature drivers have at least one top technology, 51% said they would feel safer if their vehicle had all of the most up-to-date technologies. The survey also found that 55% of mature drivers plan to buy or lease another vehicle in the next five years, suggesting that as more and more of these features are incorporated into new vehicles, a growing number of consumers 50+ could be driving cars with these technologies.

On September 17, Joseph Coughlin, Director of the MIT AgeLab and Jodi Olshevski, a leading gerontologist and Executive Director of The Hartford Center for Mature Market Excellence, can talk to your listeners about this research and driving safety among older drivers.

They’ll share a new consumer ranking of the top ten technologies that are most likely to benefit mature drivers — a follow up to a study last year — as well as information on drivers’ confidence level in learning how to use these new technologies. They can also discuss the warning signs for older drivers and how to identify and adjust driving behaviors to stay safe on the road.
