Fifty years ago, on June 25, 1967, the Beatles introduced their iconic hit “All You Need is Love” in a live performance during the world’s first global satellite broadcast. The song quickly became the anthem for San Francisco’s Summer of Love. Now, on the evening of June 25th, the international Playing For Change band salutes the 50th Anniversary with a global sing-a-long of “All You Need Is Love.” The band features performers from 13 countries representing 5 continents. The sing-a-long will take place at 8:50 pm (Pacific Time) – 11:50 pm (Eastern Time.) The audience attending the concert and all the people tuning into the “All You Need” is Love live broadcast will join in the sing-a-long Raising Their Voices to Spread the Timeless Message of Love around the world creating a international Song Around The World experience. Please tune into the live broadcast at www.peacechannel.com to participate in the “All You Need is Love” sing-a-long. You are also invited to experience the entire Playing For Change Band concert which begins at 8:00 pm (Pacific Time) – 11:00 pm (Eastern Time.) LIVE, HISTORIC ANNUAL BROADCAST

Along with only 300 people we will strengthen the message of the United Nations Education for Peace. We will create a Human Peace Sign, the largest ever in Times Square, NYC, for the focus on Education for Children & Grandchildren. We will join the world for a moment of silence, plant a peace pole, have a sing-a-long, hold the flags of the world, hear nonprofits share their Acts of Peace for children and more. We will create a half hour children’s special broadcast and give it to the world. By participating you will be included in all PR.

IMAGINE PEACE is Yoko Ono’s worldwide initiative of anti-violence. In the film, the words “Imagine Peace” are written in 24 languages set over the tranquil imagery of a blue-sky background. The piece has been transformed into a multi-channel work specifically for Times Square, and spreads the message of peace across Times Square’s monumental screens simultaneously.

Says Yoko Ono: “It’s Time for Action, Action is Peace. Think Peace, Act Peace, Spread Peace, IMAGINE PEACE! Together we have the power to change the world. I LOVE YOU!!”

Yoko Ono‘s “Imagine Peace” is part of the second annual Make Music Winter which, like its summer version, has free, live, outdoor music happening all over NYC on Friday (12/21). Almost all of them are participatory and you can be a part of it (some require musical skills, some do not).

Other notable Make Music Winter events include “James Holt: Thru-Line” (2 – 3 PM), where “amateur and professional string players disperse to each of the Brooklyn-bound G train subway platforms. Over the course of an hour, every time a train arrives, musicians will step in and out of the front car to give subway riders a continuous, tag-team performance of the famous Prelude from J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 in G major.”

There’s also Phil Kline‘s ambient boombox work “Peregrine” starting at 7 PM in front of BAM and migrating through Fort Greene, Brooklyn till 7:45. Boomboxes will be provided to the first 50 participants, and if you bring your own they’ll provide you with a cassette.
