The Skin Cancer Foundation hosted an evening of cocktails, hors doeuvres and music in support ofits Foundation on June 29, 2010. Money raised from the event, which included a poker tournament and a silent auction, went towards research, prevention, and education programs.

Approximately 500 New York City movers and shakers in the beauty, cosmetics, medical, fashion, real estate, and publishing industries came out to support The Skin Cancer Foundation’s first annual A Night the Stars Shine On Benefit at The Boathouse at Central Park. Notable guests included violinists Joshua Bell and Philippe Quint, Olympic fencer Tim Morehouse, model Jonathan Niziol, America’s Next Top Model judge Nole Marin, photographer and cast member of Bravo’s new show Double Exposure Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, Markus Klinko and GK Reid, also of Double Exposure. TV personalities included Lindsay McCormikc and Lynne White and New York Socialite Karen Koeingsberg.

The Skin Cancer Foundation has been a leader in the fight against skin cancer for 31 years and is committed to educating the public and medical professionals about sun safety. It is the only global organization solely devoted to the prevention, detection and treatment of the worlds most common cancer. The mission of the Foundation is to decrease the incidence of skin cancer through public and professional education and research. The Foundation has been very successful in its endeavors, but theres still much to be done as more than 3.5 million skin cancers in over two million people are diagnosed annually. Since its founding in 1979, The Skin Cancer Foundation has set the standard for educating the public and the medical profession about skin cancer, its prevention by means of sun protection, the need for early detection, and prompt, effective treatment.

Event co-chairs, Mindy Gorman and Elizabeth Robins, Esq. joined forces to introduce The Skin Cancer Foundation to the New York social scene and to raise awareness and funds for this important cause. Mindy Gorman, founder of Live, Love, Laugh, now a part of The Skin Cancer Foundation, lost her beloved husband to melanoma. Elizabeth Robins, daughter of Dr. Perry Robins, president and Founder of The Skin Cancer, grew up watching her father, a renowned Mohs surgeon, educate people about the worlds most common form of cancer. Together, they want to make a difference. They created a magnificent event and rallied a dedicated group of volunteers who helped make the event a tremendous success.

Held in a marvelous venue, it was a delightful evening filled with good friends, poker, martinis, and fabulous auction prizes.
