Celebrated singer-songwriter, and visionary Jackie DeShannon will make a rare
appearance in Nashville at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in the
CMA Theater (224 Rep. John Lewis Way S Nashville, TN) on Saturday April 6, 2024
at 2:30 PM. The iconic songstress will be discussing her trailblazing songwriting
career and her country music roots.

Now based in California, DeShannon was born in the small town of Hazel,
Kentucky. She became a child Radio performer in Kentucky and Illinois and later in
her teens she began a long recording career that would embrace, country,
rockabilly, folk, pop, gospel, and R&B. Her song “Buddy” a Buddy Holly tribute
which she wrote and recorded in Nashville in 1958 became a regional rockabilly
hit. DeShannon moved to LA in 1960 and debuted on the national charts with her
cover of the Bob Wills country standard “Faded Love” in 1963. She scored her first
major pop hit in 1965 with a soulful rendition of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s
“What the World Needs Now is Love”. Her version of the song was inducted into
the Library of Congress last year.

One of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock & Roll era, DeShannon was
elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame for penning hits for herself and for others.
She provided six chart singles for Brenda Lee alone, including 1961’s “Dum Dum.”
“When You Walk in the Room” was a huge success for The Searchers during the
British Invasion, and decades later Pam Tillis’s version reached the Top Five of the
country charts. Bruce Springsteen’s version is still heard during his concerts. In
1969 Jackie and her brother wrote the anthemic song, recorded by her and a
thousand others “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.” “Bette Davis Eyes” a timeless hit
for Kim Carnes earned Jackie the 1982 Grammy for Song of the Year. DeShannon’s
other credits include: “Breakaway” (Irma Thomas), “Come Stay with Me”
(Marianne Faithfull), “(He’s) The Great Imposter” (the Fleetwoods). Her songs
have also been performed by the Byrds, Ella Fitzgerald, Al Green, Annie Lennox,
Van Morrison, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen and dozens of other artists.

The program will also include video clips of Jackie performing with Country Hall of
Fame members Eddy Arnold, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, the Everly, Brothers,
and Willie Nelson. She will also sign commemorative Hatch Show Print Posters
following the program in addition to copies of the newly-released historical
collection, “The Sherry Lee Show,” of Jackie’s early country performances on the
radio. Presented in partnership with Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival. Program
ticket included with Museum admission. Free to Museum members.

“Get Together“, also known as “Let’s Get Together” and “Everybody Get Together“, is a song by American rock band the Youngbloods, originally included in their 1967 debut album The Youngbloods. It was written in the mid-1960s by American singer-songwriter Chet Powers (stage name Dino Valenti), from psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service.^[2] The single was The Youngbloods’ only Top 40 on Billboard Hot 100—peaking at No. 5 in 1969.

Background

The song is an appeal for peace and brotherhood, presenting the polarity of love versus fear, and the choice to be made between them. It is best remembered for the impassioned plea in the lines of its refrain (“Come on people now/Smile on your brother/Everybody get together/Try to love one another right now”), which is repeated several times in succession to bring the song to its conclusion.^[2]

Original recording history

The song was originally recorded as “Let’s Get Together” by the Kingston Trio in a live performance in March 1964 that was released on June 1, 1964, on their album Back in Town.^[5] While it was not released as a single, this version was the first to bring the song to the attention of the general public. The Kingston Trio often performed it live.

Cover versions

A rendition first broke into the top forty in 1965, when We Five, produced by Kingston Trio manager Frank Werber, released “Let’s Get Together” as the follow-up to their top ten hit “You Were on My Mind“. While it did not achieve the same level of success as the other, “Let’s Get Together” provided the group with a second top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 when it peaked at No. 31^[6] and No. 5 in Canada.^[7] It would be their last hit record. This was included on their second album, Make Someone Happy.
Also in August of 1965 the Mitchell Trio released its version of “Get Together” on its album, “That’s the Way It’s Gonna Be” (Mercury, SG61049). The album was also the debut of new member, John Denver, who replaced the departing Chad Mitchell.
Jefferson Airplane included it on the 1966 debut album, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off.
The most notable recording came in 1967, when the Youngbloods released their version under the title “Get Together”. It became a minor Hot 100 hit for them, peaking at No. 62 and reaching 37 on the US adult contemporary chart.^[8] However, renewed interest in the Youngbloods’ version came when it was used in a radio public service announcement as a call for brotherhood by the National Conference of Christians and Jews.^[2] The Youngbloods’ version, the most-remembered today, was re-released in 1969, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.^[9]
In 1968, The Sunshine Company recorded the song, under the title “Let’s Get Together”.
Also in 1968, the Canadian group 3’s a Crowd released their version as a single, titled “Let’s Get Together”. It peaked at No. 70 on Canada’s national singles chart.^[10]
In 1969, Richie Havens played “Get Together” live at the Woodstock festival.^[11]
In 1970, Gwen and Jerry Collins released the song as a single that reached No. 34 on the US country chart.^[12]
In March 1970, the Dave Clark Five reached No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart with their version retitled “Everybody Get Together”.^[13]
In 1974, Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah performed it on PBS station WTTW Channel 11, for the series “Made in Chicago.”^[14]
In 1995, Big Mountain put it out on a single that reached No. 28 on the US adult contemporary chart and No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100.^[15] It also reached No. 32 on Cash Box.^[16]
In 1991, Nirvana included the chorus lyrics – “Come on people now, smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now” – in the introduction to “Territorial Pissings” on the album Nevermind. “Sung” in a garbled manner by Krist Novoselic, Kurt Cobain explained this inclusion to Brazilian publication O Globo: “The song speaks of people who join together to be cool and try something new, the ideal contrast to the macho men I’m portraying in ‘Territorial Pissings.’ We didn’t mean to be offensive to the guy who wrote it. The idea of being positive and causing change in society and the world was appropriated by media, who turned it into something ridiculous, a caricature.”^[17]
In 2021, Belinda Carlisle released a version of the song to be included on a Record Store Day-exclusive EP titled Nobody Owns Me.^[18]

She’s Puerto Rican, Hawaiian, and Indian. She has collaborated with multi platinum music producer Andrew Lane since the age of 12.
Bekah sings Pop, R&B and has recently released twelve singles and the last two EDM singles, “Still Love” which was signed by Auralize, and “Light Me Up” signed by Killabyte Records both from the Netherlands. “I make music to make people feel something” says Bekah, ever since she was younger she’s loved making music and hopes to one day write songs for her favorite artists.
Bekah plays the role of Violette in the Dirt Merchant movie series staring in “Vino Royale” her reoccurring character can be seen in “Hitter Twist”, “AnHero”, and “Cherriest Jam”.
Bekah loves to travel and has been doing charity work in India since she was younger. “My parents always taught me to give back and took me to India since I was very young to do charity work with younger children and the elderly. One day I want to open an orphanage and school for children in underprivileged areas in India”.

About Tatyana:

Tatyana Mezhentseva is a young Russian singer, who participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2019.

She was born in Moscow in 2009. From the early ages she was engaged in creative work: at the age of four she started to do vocal and compose songs. She is also good at playing the piano.

The singer is sure that for success it is necessary to study a lot and train hard. She has a desire to develop further and to try something new. That is why, at the age of 7 she decided to do aerial gymnastics, which, as Tanya admits, gives her the ability to fly. Today she performs at the creative association of air gymnasts Art Area Project.

CREATIVE WAY AND ACHIEVEMENTS

She studied vocals under Mikhail Grebenshikov’s guidance at the Alla Pugacheva variety workshop. Alla Borisovna noted that Tanya is very beautiful: shining blond curls distinguish her among young artists.

Later she became a student of the Igor Krutoy Academy. She also worked with A-TEENS label.

At the age of eight Tanya made her television debut — together with Dina Garipova (Eurovision Song Contest 2013 finalist, winner of the TV show The Voice on Channel 1 in 2012) — she performed the song Fifth Element on the Christmas Song of the Year (NTV). Since then, she has regularly performed and appeared at prestigious events, such as QUARTIRNIC TEENS, a concert on the occasion of Eurovision, etc. In the summer of 2019, she was nominated for the Fashion People Awards.

JUNIOUR EUROVISON

In 2019, Tatiana had the honor of representing Russia at the international contest Junior Eurovision, which was held in Poland on November 24.

Tatyana met a Tuvan singer Denberel Oorzhak (winner of the contest You are super! on NTV) in Crimea during the contest New Wave for children. The young talents recorded the song Time for us, which was co-authored by Tatiana herself.

The qualifying competition wasn’t easy. The jury consisted of Russian pop stars, producers, former contestants of Junior Eurovision. The result was significantly influenced by the online voting. Tanya and Denberel managed to outrun their competitors and win the right to represent their country in the contest in Poland.

Igor Krutoy admitted, “Tanya and Danberel have a good song, I like it. It has emotions and it is written well to show their vocal skills. Moreover, it is easy to remember”.

Philip Kirkorov wished them luck, “You’re talented and you look great!”

Alexey Golubev, a famous director, producer and video maker, put on a competition number, as well as made a video Time for us.

To take part in one of the most prestigious international competitions is a great success at the beginning of your professional career. Tanya is not upset that she did not manage to win it — she treats the failures quite easily. At the Junior Eurovision Song Contest she gained a lot of experience, which is so necessary for young artist. But Tanya is not going to stop on reached: she continues to develop her talent and brings new ideas to life. She dreams to star in movies, work with Sting, her icon and, of course, take part in Eurovision.

Recently Tanya released a single Molodi, which was not only loved by her audience, but also found support from a new listener. The song is rapidly gaining popularity in social networks and in the media environment.

Chloé Temtchine, an award-winning singer/songwriter and speaker, suffered congestive right-heart failure in 2013 and was rushed to the ER. Chloé was told that she had a rare and fatal lung condition, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), that she had little time left to live, and that she would have to be on oxygen for the rest of her life.
Six years later, and many days more than doctors thought possible, Chloé lived with a newfound sense of meaning, purpose, and passion. She wrote music, performed, and used her talent to inspire and empower those affected with PAH and other chronic illnesses, via entertainment.
In July of 2020, she suffered a heart attack (due to PAH and Pulmonary Veno Occlusive Disease), ended up in a coma for four days, and on life-support (ECMO) for 21 days. She was told that her only option left was to have a double-lung transplant.
Miraculously, on August 5th, she was the recipient of a life-saving, double-lung transplant. Today, only seven months post-surgery, she is thriving and is continuing her dual mission of using her story and music to bring hope to those in need and of also bringing awareness to PAH and to the importance of organ donation.
In addition to writing music, performing, and spreading her message, she created Super Brave Kids, a series that consists of Chloé interviewing pediatric patients who are living with a chronic illness with the aim of providing hope and inspiration to these Superhero kids and to those watching.
