Hi Everyone,

Saying goodbye to Summer is very hard for me. I have to go through a period of mourning. It has been a rainy/flood-ridden one, but had Jersey Shore time in between storms and filming. I think I spent more time at the Shore in SEPTEMBER than I did all Summer, including Sept. 21, with plenty of HARVEST MOON and OCEAN PHOTOS to show for it. Besides busking, and running on the boards of Belmar/Spring Lake, I have gotten a chance to swim at the FABULOUS pool at LA Fitness in Brick.

The Jersey Shore folks are as wonderful and supportive as ever, so big shout out to you all. I am only sorry that our time together has been so short-lived. Miss you already!

Hey There Everyone!

Just wanted to let you know about an exciting interview I was invited to do on The SOUND 100.3FM – about the work Lyndon Harris and I are doing in The Gardens of Forgiveness!

For those of you in L.A., you may well already know just how COOL 100.3FM The Sound is. David Carradine turned me on to it in 2008. He said he found the best station on the air and had to share it with me. You will hear the story at the beginning of the Interview.

Archduchess Isabella Maria Luisa von Habsburg-Lothringen, daughter of Archduke Geza and Archduchess Elizabeth von Habsburg-Lothringen of Austria, will make her debut at The 60th International Debutante Ball on Monday, December 29th, 2014, in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Isabella is a student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. As a high school student at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut, she was the Senior Editor and Executive Director for the Broadcast Journalism Course and received many journalism awards including Finalist at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth in Seattle, Washington, in 2013 for I Love You Bear. She also created four public service announcements, and two documentaries: Natural Disasters: Haiti and Striving For Greatness: Twin Lakes Farm. She is fluent in French and received the La Comtesse Nathalie d’Esterno Prix d’Excellence 2014 for excellence in French Studies. In addition, she has won many equitation awards including Champion, Saugerties Children’s Hunter Division, Saugerties, New York, and Top Ten, Low Hunter Division and Top Five Children’s Equitation Division, Fairfield-Westchester Professional Horseman’s Association. Isabella was also the President of the Cleats for Kids Club at Convent of the Sacred Heart and a volunteer at the Padre Pio Shelter, a shelter for homeless men in the Bronx.

Miss Isabella Maria Luisa von Habsburg-Lothringen’s father, the Archduke Geza von Habsburg-Lothringen is an internationally renowned author and leading authority on Fabergé. He is the son of Archduke Joseph Francis of Austria and Princess Anna of Saxony, the grandson of King Frederick Augustus III of Saxony and the great-great grandson of Emperor Franz-Joseph I of Austria. Her mother, the Archduchess Elizabeth von Habsburg-Lothringen is the Managing Director of the Winston Art Group. FORTY-SIX WOMEN MADE THEIR BOWS AT THE 60th INTERNATIONAL DEBUTANTE BALL Monday, December 29th, 2014

Forty-six women of distinction from the United States and abroad made their bows to society at the 60th Anniversary of the International Debutante Ball. The debutantes represented Austria, China, England, Hong Kong, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and twelve American states. Each debutante was accompanied by her own escort in white tie and tails, and a military cadet who carried the flag of the country or state which she represented. This year there were five sets of sisters.

Sponsored by Piaget, and The Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation the Ball benefits go to The International Debutante Ball Foundation which supports numerous charities. The primary charity is The Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club, a home away from home for the military and their families. Partial support will go to the American Ballet Theater, Friends of Versailles and the American Theater Wing among others.

The ball was founded in 1954 by Beatrice Dinsmore Joyce as a charity and the tradition continues today directed by her niece, Mrs. Gregory Scott Hedberg, Director and General Chairman. Chef Rebecca Lang Recommends Roman Meal Whole Grain Bread
A good breakfast satisfies you until lunch. A better breakfast prepares you to conquer the day! September is Better Breakfast Month, which is all about making breakfast a priority. Rebecca Lang, author of five cookbooks, is an advocate for starting the day with a healthy, tasty breakfast.
“It’s important to start your day with nutritious foods,” said Lang. “But you don’t have to sacrifice flavor for nutrition. There are plenty of quick and delicious recipes that will have you looking forward to breakfast!”
According to Lang, the building blocks of a better breakfast are:
Protein: Foods high in protein like eggs, nuts and meats help you feel full faster. This can help control overeating.
Complex carbohydrates: Make your breakfast with whole grain bread instead of white bread and you will feel full longer. Lang suggests Roman Meal whole grain bread. Most varieties contain at least 21 grams of whole grains per serving, which is almost half of the recommended daily value.
Fruits and vegetables: Experts recommend anywhere from 5-13 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Start your day off right by incorporating fruits and vegetables in your breakfast and you willl be more likely to eat them throughout the day.

Ingredients:
6 slices Roman Meal bread
4 Eggs, beaten
½ cup Chopped baby spinach leaves
¼ cup Crumbled feta cheese
¼ tsp Chopped fresh oregano leaves
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Trim crusts from bread. Press gently into 6 muffin cups. Bake 20 minutes until golden brown; remove from oven.
Spray medium skillet with nonstick cooking spray; heat over medium heat. Add eggs, spinach, cheese, oregano and salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until desired degree of doneness.
Fill bread cups with cooked egg and cheese mixture. Top with oregano sprigs if desired.

Spring Asparagus Ham and Egg Sandwich
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Ready In: 15 Minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:
6 Asparagus spears, grilled
1 oz Prosciutto ham, very thinly sliced
2 slices Roman Meal bread, toasted
2 large Eggs, soft poached
4 slices Avocado
2 tsp Parmesan cheese, shaved
Black pepper, to taste

Directions:
Wrap sliced ham around asparagus spears.
Top each slice of toasted bread with 3 hams wrapped asparagus spears, 1 egg and 2 slices avocado.
Sprinkle with cheese and black pepper.

Whole Grain French Toast and Tropical Fruit Kabobs
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 11 Minutes
Ready In: 16 Minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients:
2 large Eggs, beaten
¼ cup Milk
1 tsp Vanilla extract, divided
6 slices Roman Meal bread
Nonstick cooking spray
1 tbsp Granulated sugar
2 tsp Fresh lemon zest
18 1-inch cubes fresh fruit (kiwi, pineapple, mango)
6 6-inch bamboo skewers
Yogurt and honey (optional)

Directions:
Combine eggs, milk and vanilla extract in shallow bowl; mix well. Combine sugar and lemon zest in small bowl; set aside.
Trim crusts and cut each piece of bread into quarters for a total of 24 pieces.
Spray large skillet with nonstick cooking spray; heat over medium heat. Dip bread pieces in egg mixture, coating both sides. Place in skillet and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown. Cook on second side for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Assemble 4 pieces French toast and 3 pieces fruit on each skewer for a total of 6 skewers. Sprinkle with lemon sugar. Serve with yogurt and honey if desired.

As the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prepares for July 29^th – August 1^st listening sessions on its Clean Power Plan for existing power plants, a new report from Ceres and Clean Edge ranks the nation’s largest electric utilities and their local subsidiaries on their renewable energy sales and energy efficiency savings. The report found that many utilities are deploying lower carbon fuel sources and that state policies are a key driver in that performance, but there is variability in performance even among utilities operating in the same states.

A first-of-its-kind report, Benchmarking Utility Clean Energy ranks the 32 largest electric utility holding companies, which collectively account for about 68 percent of 2012 U.S. retail electricity sales, on three clean energy indicators. The report also provides data on 87 subsidiary companies – the distribution utilities to which electricity consumers pay their monthly bills. Subsidiaries’ rankings generally tracked with the rankings of their larger parent holding companies – though some outperformed or underperformed their owners and peers.

“Renewable energy and energy efficiency, two of EPA’s Clean Power Plan building blocks, are increasingly cost-effective options for electric utilities seeking to lower their carbon emissions,” said Mindy Lubber, President of Ceres, a nonprofit sustainability advocacy organization, which authored the report in partnership with Clean Edge. “Our analysis shows that some utilities are beginning to deliver substantial amounts of clean energy and energy efficiency, while others are lagging.”

Among the 32 holding companies, NV Energy, Xcel, PG&E, Sempra, and Edison International were found to rank the highest for renewable energy sales, with renewable resources accounting for nearly 17 to 21 percent of their retail electricity sales in 2012. Southern Company, SCANA, Dominion, AES, and Entergy ranked at the bottom, with renewable energy sales accounting for less than two percent of each company’s total power sales. Five of the 32 companies included in this report accounted for nearly 54 percent of renewable energy sales.

“Xcel Energy’s clean energy strategy is a model for how utilities and states can work together to significantly reduce emissions at the lowest cost for customers,” said Frank Prager, Vice President, Policy and Strategy, for Xcel Energy. “Collaborating with our states has enabled us to provide the renewable resources and efficiency programs that customers value without compromising the highly reliable and affordable energy service they require.”

Energy efficiency top performers among holding companies included PG&E, Edison International, and Northeast Utilities, whose cumulative annual energy efficiency savings were equivalent to 16 to 17 percent of their annual retail electric sales in 2012. PSEG, SCANA, Pepco Holdings, Dominion Resources, and Entergy ranked at the bottom, with cumulative annual energy efficiency savings accounting for less than one percent of their annual retail sales.

“One of the keys to becoming a leading utility in the country is to be innovative and environmentally sensitive, and this report from Ceres and Clean Edge shows how we’re achieving that in the key area of clean energy,” said PG&E President Chris Johns. “Our customers want PG&E to provide solutions to the challenge of global warming, while at the same time helping them use less energy and save money. As their local utility, we’re focused on partnering with our customers to develop innovative energy solutions and meeting their needs well into the future.”

Analyzing 2012 data from nearly a dozen federal, state and industry sources, including the U.S. Energy Information Administration, state Renewable Portfolio Standard annual reports and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission 10-K filings, the report benchmarked companies on three indicators: 1) renewable energy sales, or the total amount of retail renewable electricity sold, including Renewable Energy Credits retired by the utility; 2) cumulative annual energy efficiency savings, which includes savings from projects that were implemented in prior years and were still saving energy in 2012; and 3) incremental annual energy efficiency savings, or the energy savings from new programs or new participants in existing programs.

China Airlines (CAL) is the largest airline in Taiwan and the flag carrier of the Republic of China. Although not directly state-owned, the airline is owned by China Airlines Group, which is owned by the China Aviation Development. China Aviation Development Foundation is in turn owned by the government of the Republic of China.

The airline, with headquarters in and flight operations from Taoyuan International Airport, flies to destinations in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. China Airlines has a strong presence in the Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Northeast Asia. The airline started scheduled chartered flights between Taiwan and mainland China on July 2008. Most flights serving this market are concentrated at Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. China Airlines has operated the Hong Kong route since 1967, which is the airline’s most profitable market, generating 13.3% of its NT$121.9 billion (US$3.7 billion) revenue in 2006 with over 140 flights flown a week between Taipei, Kaohsiung and Hong Kong.

China Airlines’ wholly owned subsidiary, Mandarin Airlines, manages regional flights to secondary cities with smaller capacity requirements. China Airlines’ cargo division China Airlines Cargo operates CAL’s dedicated freighter fleet, and manages the cargo-hold capacity in CAL’s passenger aircraft.

Before the Chinese Civil War, there were three airlines operating in the Republic of China. One was Civil Air Transport, founded by General Claire L. Chennault and Whiting Willauer in 1946. The other two were joint ventures by the ROC government with Pan American World Airways and Lufthansa. As a result of the Chinese Civil War, the Communist Party of China took control of mainland China, and only Civil Air Transport moved along with the Kuomintang (KMT)-controlled ROC government to Taiwan.

With a fleet of two PBY Amphibians, China Airlines was established on December 16, 1959, with its shares completely held by the Republic of China government[citation needed]. It was founded by a retired air force officer[citation needed] and initially concentrated on charter flights. During the 1960s, China Airlines was able to establish its first scheduled routes. In October 1962, a flight from Taipei to Hualien became the airline’s first domestic service. Growth continued and on December 1, 1966, Saigon, South Vietnam (now Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) became the airline’s first international destination. Trans-Pacific flights to San Francisco were initiated on February 2, 1970.[citation needed]

The next 20 years saw sporadic but far-reaching growth for the company. Routes were opened to Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu, Dhahran and Johannesburg, among others (China Airline’s first European destination was Amsterdam). Jets were acquired, and China Airlines employed such planes as the Boeing 747 in its fleet. Later, the airline inaugurated its own round-the-world flight: (Taipei-Anchorage-New York-Amsterdam-Dubai-Taipei).[citation needed] 1993 saw China Airlines listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Change of logo and livery

As the flag carrier for the Republic of China, China Airlines has been affected by disputes over the political status of Taiwan, and under pressure from the People’s Republic of China was barred from flying into a number of countries maintaining diplomatic relations with the PRC. As a result, in the mid-1990s, China Airlines subsidiary Mandarin Airlines took over some of its Sydney and Vancouver international routes. Partly as a way to avoid the international controversy, in 1995 China Airlines unveiled its “plum blossom” logo, replacing the national flag, which had previously appeared on the tail fins (empennage), and the aircraft livery from the red-white-blue national colors on the fuselage of its aircraft.[citation needed] Plum blossom (Prunus mume) is the National Flower of the Republic of China.

Throughout the 1990s, the airline employed many ex-ROC Air Force pilots. Due to the company’s poor safety record in the 1990s, China Airlines began to change its pilot recruitment practices and the company began to actively recruit civilian-trained pilots with proven track records. In addition, the company began recruiting university graduates as trainees in its own pilot training program. The company also modified its maintenance and operational procedures. These decisions were instrumental in the company’s improved safety record, culminating in the company’s recognition by the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).

In late 2004, President Chen Shui-bian proposed the renaming of all state-owned enterprises bearing the name “China” to “Taiwan.” This was opposed by the Pan-blue coalition, the opposition parties in the ROC legislature. The airline also voiced concern over its international operations, codeshare agreements and other commercial contracts. The issue was dropped after the 2004 Legislative Yuan election when the pro-Chen Pan-Green Coalition failed to win a majority. In 2007, however, the issue resurfaced with the renaming of several state-owned companies such as Chunghwa Post, whose name was changed to Taiwan Post (a name that was reverted again to Chunghwa Post when the KMT won both the presidential and legislative 2008 elections) and CPC Corporation.

China Airlines signed an agreement to begin the process of joining the SkyTeam airline alliance on September 14, 2010 and officially became a full member on September 28, 2011. This was marked by an update to the logo of the airline and the typeface in which “China Airlines” is printed.

The float built by China Airlines won the International Trophy in the Rose Parade in California on January 2, 2011 for the 20th time in a row.

China Airlines changed their Taipei-New York stopover from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport to Kansai Airport, ending Anchorage’s only non-seasonal international passenger flight after 28 years, on April 28, 2011.

China Airlines announced the intention of bringing the fleet from 68 now to 100+ within at most 10 years. With the orders of the Airbus A350s (14 orders and 6 options), China Airlines recently announced the intention of leasing more Airbus A330s or narrow-body aircraft in order to meet the increasing demands of regional routes and cross-strait routes. China Airlines also announced that the decision of the long-haul fleet plan will be announced by the end of 2012 the latest.

China Airlines’ original livery prior to 1995 was a livery with the Republic of China Flag printed on the tail. It changed its livery since the Chinese mainland government prohibits any aircraft flying with the Republic of China Flag printed on the plane to land in the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau and pressured other countries to do so too. Under political pressure, China Airlines changed its livery to the livery now.

China Airlines has had many uniforms since its 1959. China Airlines’ present uniform was changed in 2007 to celebrate its 47th anniversary.

China Airlines has used different slogans throughout its operational history. In 2006, a second slogan was introduced to complement the new uniforms and to celebrate the 47th anniversary. China Airlines’ slogans have been as follows:

Most of China Airlines’ flights originate out of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, its main hub near Taipei, Taiwan. At Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, China Airlines’ flight operations are in Terminal 1 and 2. China Airlines’ regional flights are mainly concentrated in Terminal 1. Its long-haul flights, especially American, European, and Australian, are mainly concentrated in Terminal 2. Additionally, China Airlines and its domestic subsidiary Mandarin Airlines operate numerous flights out of Kaohsiung International Airport and Taipei Songshan Airport. China Airlines’ focus cities outside Taiwan are mainly Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Hong Kong’s Hong Kong International Airport, and Osaka’s Kansai International Airport.

Through the mid 2000s, China Airlines’ route network was affected by the political status of Taiwan, which has historically limited access for Taiwanese airlines to Europe and certain Asian countries. Because Taiwanese carriers did not have direct access to China, China Airlines used Hong Kong as its interline destination. China Airlines started to operate regular charter flights to China in 2008. The airline began regularly scheduled, direct cross-strait operations in December 2008, following the restoration of direct travel links.

China Airlines now serves 98 destinations in 29 countries and territories (including cargo) on four continents, with a well-developed Asian network.
