The theme for the 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month, “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation” underscores the Army’s celebration of diversity and commitment to building high performing and cohesive teams.

This is a private event, produced by the International Sustainable Resilience Center (SDRC), is not open to the public. We are offering live interviews to local television stations in each city during this unique, international event, featuring working sessions with the United Nations International Public Private Partnership Center of Excellence (ICoE) and twelve regional organizations that work with Louisiana businesses involved in larger public projects around the state, along with eight specialist centers working under the direction of the ICoE, including centers from Portugal, Spain, France, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo, who will hold sessions together in bringing knowledge of “people first” public private partnerships to enhance resilience and provide for robust infrastructure in Louisiana.
We will have an experienced broadcast crew at the event that will be recording interviews. THE WHO
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe International Public Private Partnership Center of Excellence (ICoE) and its’ affiliated Specialist Center for Disaster Resilience and Recovery, the International Sustainable Resilience Center (ISRC) are coproducing a first of its kind ever event in Louisiana. ISRC is one of eight specialist centers of excellence that will be convening in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lake Charles from March 2nd to 6th, 2020. ISRC, headquartered in New Orleans, will welcome centers based in Portugal, Spain, France, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo who will hold sessions together in bringing knowledge of “people first” public private partnerships to enhance resilience and provide for robust infrastructure in Louisiana.
These centers have realized that the value of their work could be leveraged by acting together and have chosen Louisiana as the location for a pilot project that can be replicated worldwide. The ICoE , a unit of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe division of Economic Cooperation and trade will also attend, and will be represented by its chief Geoffrey Hamilton and Chief Tony Bonnici. Both have committed to assist Louisiana in any way possible regarding trade and foreign direct investment as well.
THE WHAT
This spring thought leaders from all around the globe will gather in three key Louisiana cities to make connections and brainstorm ways to improve our state’s ability to enter into public private partnerships that will work for everyone.
Co-produced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the International Sustainable Resilience Center based in New Orleans, this first-of-its-kind ever event will feature experts from France, Spain, Portugal, Lebanon, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and the U.S.

Olga, beginning at age 97, dreams of her childhood in Port of Spain, untangling a family mystery of political intrigue: why her Venezuelan family, living in luxury, fled Trinidad for Harlem in 1924.

Olga was named, she claimed, in 1913, by and for a real Russian Princess:Princess Olga, sister of the reigning Tsar Nicholas. Olga, a babe in arms, was onboard ship going from Margarita, Venezuela to Port of Spain in the Crown Colony of Trinidad.

Port of Spain was where Olga first learned her power as Princess.

Except when she is ushered out of bed, or to the dining room table, Olga, beginning at age 97, dreams back to her childhood in Port of Spain. Her family was intimately connected to the Venezuelan regime; her uncle was its Consul General in Trinidad; her father worked for the dictatorship in the gold fields of Amazonas and most of his brothers worked for the regime, as well. In her dreams, she untangles a mystery of political intrigue and why her family fled Trinidad. She discovers the important part she played, causing her family, living in luxury, to abandon Port of Spain for Harlem in 1924.

She then dreams of her arrival in New York, and of her eventual triumph in her new country: a scholarship to Mount Holyoke, marriage into an old literary family, (Hawthorne and Smyth) but, until she receives a steamer trunk full of cash, she is still connected to the regime in Venezuela.

Esther was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. Her first contact with dancing was at the age of 8 when she joined a competition figure skating team. She competed and performed all around Spain in shows such as Mamma Mia on ice with Champions on ice, and Aladdin with Circo Americano en Las Ventas (Madrid). At the age of 16, Esther decided to focus solely on dance. She joined Acro Dance Company based in Madrid and kept dacing with Circo Americano. She moved to New York city to keep improving herself. Esther began working for different
choreographers and shows as a freelance dancer performing all over
the tri-state area and Pensilvannia in theatres and venues such as the Cutting Room, Broad Street Ballroom, Melrose Ballroom, Dixon Place, the Warsaw Theatre and the Trocadero Theatre. She joined the Vanessa Long Dance Company in 2014 as a dancer and has since been promoted to Rehearsal Director in 2016. She has also choreographed 2 pieces for Vanessa Long Dance company that have been performed in plenty of venues in Manhattan and PA. Her last piece called: “All that Glitters is not gold” is about social class, power, wealth and poverty and how these issues can define who we are and our future without having a choice.

Choreographing is her passion. She believes that a strong ballet technique combined with movement quality from other styles plus drawing with their bodies every note of the music will make an outstanding piece, without neglecting the performer expressivity which is as important as technique. “We, dancers, are storytellers, our face is as important”

Esther has been trained in several disciplines making her a versatile dancer so when it comes to choreographing, she fuses different styles such as ballet – flamenco, contemporary – hip hop, adding notes of salsa, wacking, locking… Her latest projects include choreographing the Off-off Broadway show “Woof Woof” with Director Leonard Peters and music by Bob Goldstone, co-choreographing a stage piece for A World Without Rape and . She is also currently the Co- Artistic Director for Long 2, a pre-professional company run by the Vanessa Long Dance Company. She is choreographing “GO” the new Ty Blue’s single music video that will be released in June and working on a documental movie called “Sole Survivor” directed by Celia Novis, a very well known Spanish Scriptwriter, filmmaker and journalist, that works in Spain, Mexico and EEUU.

Her most recent performance was at the cutting Room, a beautiful evening of live Spanish music played by Vidak Radonjic and Bilgehan Turcer. She is focusing on more projects with the two guitarist s and she is also creating a new piece for Next season for Vanessa Long dance company that will be about women’s right and cultural aspects that surround the women world.

USCIS Will Host Naturalization Ceremonies to Honor Veterans and their Families

WASHINGTON—Veterans, service members and military spouses across the country will become U.S. citizens this week as they take the Oath of Allegiance at special Veterans Day naturalization ceremonies. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will highlight the sacrifices that military members and their families have made while serving our country. From Nov. 7-13, USCIS will welcome more than 10,000 new citizens in nearly 130 naturalization ceremonies across the country and around the world. Of those being naturalized, more than 255 are veterans, service members and military spouses.

Many current and former military members and their families are eligible for citizenship, including expedited screening and overseas processing, under special provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Since Oct. 1, 2001, when data collection on military naturalizations began, more than 109,000 service members have become U.S. citizens, including individuals serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Germany, Japan and elsewhere. In 2015 alone, USCIS hosted nearly 175 naturalization ceremonies at military installations in the U.S. and abroad.

“On Veterans Day, we salute the men and women who have so courageously served our country and defended the freedoms that it was built upon. Among our brave veterans are thousands of immigrants, many of whom vowed to defend their new home even before they were citizens,” USCIS Director León Rodríguez said. “It is because of their extraordinary sacrifices, and those of their families, that we can enjoy the rights and liberties of living in this great country.”

USCIS has a robust military outreach program that provides information about immigration and naturalization to service members and veterans at military installations, Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals, universities and various military organizations. USCIS also has offices on multiple military installations, including Fort Benning, Georgia; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. These offices identify recruits who may be eligible for naturalization.

USCIS’ Veterans Day activities this year will feature a naturalization ceremony at the USS Torsk and USS Constellation, located at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, on Nov. 11. During this event, Dan Renaud, USCIS associate director for the Field Operations Directorate, will administer the Oath of Allegiance, and Sgt. Maj. Mercy A. Diez of the U.S. Army Band will be recognized as an Outstanding American by Choice.

Other ceremonies include events at:
· American Heroes Air Show in Orlando, Florida, on Nov. 7.
· Cullman Performance Hall of Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina, on Nov. 11.
· Joint Base Lewis McChord in Seattle, Washington, on Nov. 13.

In addition, 12 recruits will become new citizens at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, through the Naturalization at Basic Training Initiative. Developed with the Department of Defense, this program allows enlisted service members to complete the naturalization process during basic training.

USCIS invites new citizens, and their families and friends, to share their experiences from the ceremonies through Twitter and other social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.

Arriving in New York on June 8, 2015, the Guayas was docked at the Intrepid Museum, located at Pier 86. From Monday, June 8 to Thursday, June 11th this vessel was open to the public a number of hours each day for live Ecuadorian music, handcrafts and souvenirs from different regions of their country. The after-party on June 9th was amazing. As the ship’s band played on and on young naval men were dancing with older women throughout the night. Not only were the Officers friendly, but everyone from crew to musicians were courteous and eager to show us how to fall ln love with this country and its people.

On the morning of June 12th, the Guayas set sail for Belfast-United Kingdom; Alesund-Norway; Kristiansand-Norway; Aalborg-Denmark; Bremerhaven-Germany; Amsterdam-Holland; Lisbon-Portugal; Cartegena, Spain; Civitavecchia-Italy and Piero-Greece.

It will also sail to Alejandra-Eqypt; Yeda –Saudi Arabia; Doha-Qatar; Petabuhan Kiang-Malasia; Jakarta-Indonesia; Perth-Australia; Sidney-Australia; Wellington-New Zealand; Valparaiso-Chile and Callao-Peru and return to Ecuador February 2016.

Forty-six women of distinction from the United States and abroad made their bows to society at the 60th Anniversary of the International Debutante Ball. The debutantes represented Austria, China, England, Hong Kong, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and twelve American states. Each debutante was accompanied by her own escort in white tie and tails, and a military cadet who carried the flag of the country or state which she represented. This year there were five sets of sisters.

Sponsored by Piaget, and The Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation the Ball benefits go to The International Debutante Ball Foundation which supports numerous charities. The primary charity is The Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club, a home away from home for the military and their families. Partial support will go to the American Ballet Theater, Friends of Versailles and the American Theater Wing among others.

The march began Sunday afternoon at the Place de la Republique, near the Charlie Hebdo offices where 12 people were killed Wednesday.

French officials say about 1.3 million people huddled in the windy streets — some appearing solemn, some upbeat — marching with French flags and “Je suis Charlie” — “I am Charlie” — signs. Some sang and clapped, and portions of the crowd spontaneously burst into applause as they marched.

It was the largest demonstration in French history, according to officials.

The march broke up into three sections — one down Boulevard Voltaire, one down Rue Bastille, and the third down Rue Philippe Auguste. All three marches later reunited at Place de la Nation.

Cafes and bistros along the route overflowed with marchers who stopped to rest along the walk, some carrying handmade signs reading “No Fear” and “Not Afraid.”

The march was a response to the massacre at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical weekly newspaper, and a subsequent pair of hostage situations Friday, one of which involved the suspected gunmen. Seventeen people were killed during the three days of violence.

French police say they took extra precautions during the march, with more than 2,000 officers in the area and another 2,000 officers and 1,000 soldiers stationed throughout Paris.

Gerard Araud, the French ambassador to the United States, told ABC News that it is “very likely” that the country will face more attempted terrorist attacks.

“We have to consider the threat that we are facing. You have in Europe thousands of young radicals — thousands of them — and of course, we are democracies and you don’t arrest somebody because of his ideas,” he said.

Araud called it a “very specific threat,” noting the hundreds of Frenchmen who went to Syria or Yemen for military training with various extremist groups.

“We don’t know when these people are coming back and whether they are coming back and we don’t know when they’re — whether these radical people are going suddenly to become terrorists,” he said. “So for the moment … it’s very likely, unfortunately, that we are going to face other attempts of terrorist acts.”
