NEW YORK, NY — Alina Bonsell, candidate for New York State Senate District 28, announced today that she will be running on an additional, independent ballot line named “Jewish Safety” alongside her Republican candidacy in the November 3, 2026, general election.

The announcement comes as independent petitioning will start April 14 through May 23, 2026, during which Bonsell’s campaign must collect 5,000 total signatures to ensure at least 3,000 qualified signatures from registered voters across the district.

New York State Senate District 28 spans Manhattan’s East Side, including East 14th Street through East 96th Street, Central Park South, and Roosevelt Island.

“The Jewish Safety line is about bringing people together across party lines around something fundamental: safety, identity, and shared values,” said Bonsell. “This is about building a coalition that reflects the reality of our community, not forcing people into political boxes.”

Bonsell previously ran for New York City Council in 2025, where she built a broad base of support across the district and demonstrated strong crossover appeal among Republicans, Independents, and Democrats alike.

The creation of the “Jewish Safety” line reflects that same coalition-building strategy, aimed at engaging voters who may not align with a single party but want leadership that prioritizes safety, stability, and common-sense solutions.

For Bonsell, the issue is deeply personal. “My family came to this country from the former Soviet Union because of antisemitism,” she said. “Jewish safety is not abstract to me, instead it’s part of my family’s history and part of why I’m running. No one in this city should feel unsafe because of who they are.”

“To move New York forward, we need leadership that is practical, not ideological,” Bonsell said. “People want safer streets, lower costs, and a government that actually works. That’s what I’m running to deliver for my neighbors.”

With a compressed petitioning timeline, the campaign is mobilizing aggressively to meet ballot requirements and is seeking to raise $20,000 to fund staffing and operations necessary to collect signatures across the district.

“This is a grassroots effort with a clear goal,” Bonsell added. “If we want real representation, it takes real participation. I’m asking people across our community to step in, sign, volunteer, and help us get this done.”

WE WIN TOGETHER

Alina is running on the Republican line this election, but her prospects for victory increases if voters can choose her on an Independent, “Jewish Safety” line, with all votes on both lines counting toward her total. This is about protecting the safety of all Jews in New York City and creating legislation that punishes those who commit religious crimes.

To make that possible, we need to hire staff and collect 5,000 registered voter signatures, so that at least 3,000 will be valid. These signatures need to be from any D28 registered voters who have not already signed any other petition.

Your support will directly fund trained petition staff and help ensure we qualify for the “Jewish Safety” Independent line on this November’s ballot.

We need to raise funds to get this done between April 14th – May 26th so we legally qualify our Independent line.

Alina
Bonsell
candidate for ny
state senate
Alina Bonsell is a Yorkville
resident, mother, and small
business owner, not a career
politician. In 1989, her family
immigrated to the United States
as Jewish refugees from the
Soviet Union when she was a
small child. She has spent her
life building businesses and
fighting to stay afloat in a city
that is increasingly hostile to the
people who make it run.
With 20 years of experience in
pharmaceutical operations and
private sector leadership,
including roles in regulatory
affairs, executive management,
and complex systems oversight,
Alina brings a track record of
accountability and measurable
results. She will bring that same
discipline to Albany.

ABOUT WHITE WAVE

Formed in 1988, WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company (WHITE WAVE) strives to inspire audiences through multi-dimensional dance productions reflecting themes and philosophies both modern and timeless. Our mission is to be a potent stimulus for change and expansion of the dance/arts world through the production of dance concerts, classes, residencies, and education. Artistic Director Young Soon Kim’s vision is expansive, challenging the threshold of dance, music, theater and visual art, surging forward to create new possibilities. Ms. Kim creates works of vision and movement language in reverence and awe of novelty that challenge and broaden the boundaries of dance. We provide both emerging and established choreographers/companies with a NYC venue where they can congregate, create, rehearse and present new dance works through our festivals.

WHITE WAVE created DDF in 2001 in response to the dance community’s need for performance opportunities that would not only present, but also produce, the work of rising choreographers at minimal expense for the artist. The festival is now recognized as New York’s most prestigious gathering of pioneering choreography, encouraging experimentation, creativity, and originality.

To date, WHITE WAVE Dance has proudly presented over 3,800 choreographers/dance companies and over 26,500 performers to a total of more than 92K audience members.

More info at www.whitewavedance.org.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Young Soon Kim, Artistic Director of WHITE WAVE Dance, is a recipient of the 2023 Bessies Angel Honoree Award, and is a nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographer, whose work has been hailed for its exhilarating, visually stunning, and emotionally rich phrases and textures.

In addition to her role as a performer and Artistic Director, Ms. Kim created a series of dance festivals soon after inaugurating the WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater in DUMBO, Brooklyn, in 2001.

She has since become one of the most recognized producers/curators in New York City. Ms. Kim has also served as a juror for New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in 2006 and for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2014.

After the World première at the 2017 La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, WHITE WAVE Dance’s Canadian première of “iyouuswe” (read as I-You-Us-We-two) at the 2018 Vancouver International Dance Festival was a resounding success! WHITE WAVE presented “Eternal NOW” at our enormously successful 2019 tour to Korea and China. In Gwangju, Korea, we performed at a special event at the Asian Cultural Center, one of the

most prestigious arts complexes in all of Asia. There we participated at the Opening Celebration of the 2019 FINA World Championship Masters’ Games, a sporting event that rivals the Olympics. Following that, we flew

to China to perform at the Ningbo Cultural Plaza, as part of a China-US Cultural Exchange program. Dazzled sold-out audiences greeted us at every performance!

During the Summer/Fall 2021, Young Soon Kim continually created “iyouuswe II, A Dance Film” and a stage version of the production. iyouuswe II (I-You-Us-We-Two), A Dance Film was selected as finalist for the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival, Paris International Short Festival, Vancouver Independent Film Festival and an OFFICIAL SELECTION at the 2021 London International Short Film Festival, Espoo Digi-Dance International Film Festival (Finland) and Experimental, Dance, Music Film Festival (Canada).

“There are people who simply have a lot of energy, and the Korean-born choreographer Young Soon Kim is clearly one of them.” – Roslyn Sulcas, The New York Times

A new survey sheds light on the many ways that acute pain can disrupt daily life.

Although pain is one of the most common reasons that people visit the doctor, managing it can be complicated.

So, what’s a patient—or a doctor – to do? Here to talk about the unmet need in treating acute pain is Dr. David Dalury, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery (Emeritus) at the University of Maryland.

vrtx.com

The results show how patients’ lives are affected by acute pain:

70% say it limits them from walking and exercising.
69% says it limits their sleep.
65% says it affects their hobbies and leisure activities.
65% say it made them feel irritable or emotionally drained.
Patients reported missing an average of 19 working days annually.

Pain is one of the most common reasons that people visit the doctor; however, treatment options for the various types and causes of pain remain limited.i,ii,iii

Approximately 40 million Americans with acute pain are prescribed an opioid to manage their discomfort each year.vii Although opioids can be effective, they also carry a labeled risk of addiction.viii In fact, roughly 85,000 U.S. adults are expected to develop opioid use disorder (OUD) within a year of their prescribed treatment of acute pain.vii

Health care providers may prescribe either acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as alternatives for milder pain or additions to opioids for severe acute pain; while these treatments are generally well tolerated, they may have limited effectiveness, particularly for moderate-to-severe acute pain.viii,ix

The survey also shows that:

77% of patients say they are interested in trying a different pain medication if they experience acute pain again.
52% say they are seeking a new pain medication with fewer side effects than their last medication.
31% say they stopped taking their medication before their pain was resolved.
On Wednesday, December 4th, Dr. David Dalury Professor of Orthopedic Surgery (Emeritus) at the University of Maryland will be available to discuss the survey results and help raise awareness about the unmet need in current pain management options and offer solutions.

Tell me about the State of Pain survey. What did it evaluate?

Can you tell us some of the key findings? What did you learn?

Why is it important to focus on pain management right now?

Where can people learn more about the State of Pain survey?

The author and founder of Genesis 123 Foundation discusses the death of the former Secretary of State, and how it reflects with today’s political scene.

Earlier this week, Henry Kissinger, a former U.S. Secretary of State and national security advisor, passed away at the age of 100. While he left mixed feelings on his actions over the course of his career, there’s no question that Kissinger had left an influential mark on politics

Kissinger was actually the first Jewish Secretary of State when he was sworn into office, which would later become a pressure point to the Nixon administration, becoming a key factor on said pressure with Israel when it came to withdraw from approaching Cairo and Damascus during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

But the interesting thing is how Kissinger’s passing actually relates to current politics. Antony Blinken, also Jewish, now serves as Secretary of State, and is actually visited Israel this week to meet with leaders over the ongoing ceasefire in the war against Hamas.

The reason this comes up is because of the pressure that now comes from the Biden administration, though on a much different level than what Nixon’s did, in regards to the message they’re trying to convey. Not to mention the significance of their involvement in the 2024 Presidential election, which will no doubt draw both pro-Israel voters, as well as millions of Jews and Christians.

With us now to talk about Kissinger’s legacy and how it has these interesting ties with the modern political scene is Jonathan Feldstein, a key Israeli figure and founder of the Genesis 123 Foundation (based on Genesis 12:3). His expertise in what’s happening in Israel should prove useful with this discussion. We welcome him to the show.

About Jonathan Feldstein…

Jonathan lives in Israel and has a son and son-in-law currently serving in the IDF. He has established an emergency fund through his Genesis 123 Foundation:

Israel has suffered barrages of thousands of rockets and missiles fired at Israeli communities creating death, damage, injuries, fear and trauma. The security threats, deaths, injuries, and trauma are at a level unseen in years.

The Genesis 123 Foundation is standing in the gap to provide emergency needs including civilian security, soldiers’ welfare, those suffering trauma, people whose homes have been destroyed, and emergency medical needs.

Every donation of any size makes a huge difference. https://love.genesis123.co/

Jonathan Feldstein is president and founder of The Genesis 123 Foundation. Jonathan was born and educated in the U.S. and immigrated to Israel in 2004. He is married and the father of six.

Throughout his life and career, he has been blessed by the calling to fellowship with Christians to serve as a bridge between Jews and Christians and to help connect Christians to Israel in a meaningful way.

Stop by on Sunday and the rest of the week to bless the lulav and etrog

In today’s fast-paced world, where success is often measured by external achievements, it’s easy to lose sight of what true happiness really means. As we celebrate Sukkot, a joyous Jewish holiday, it serves as a reminder that the ultimate happiness lies not in what we achieve, but in cultivating a state of mind and being. This blog aims to explore the essence of true happiness and its universal relevance, creating a meaningful connection for both Jewish and non-Jewish individuals alike.

1. Embracing Sukkot’s Message:
Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles, is a time when Jewish communities come together to build temporary shelters and dwell in them for seven days. This act of dwelling in fragile structures teaches us the importance of appreciating the present moment and finding joy in simplicity. Regardless of our faith, we can all learn from this practice by embracing gratitude, mindfulness, and the pursuit of true happiness beyond material possessions.

2. Shifting Our Perspective:
True happiness cannot be solely dependent on external circumstances or achievements. It is a state of mind that transcends the ups and downs of life. By shifting our perspective and focusing on inner growth, self-compassion, and meaningful connections, we can experience a profound sense of fulfillment. This shift allows us to find happiness within ourselves and radiate it to others, fostering unity and understanding among individuals from diverse backgrounds.

3. Cultivating Mindfulness:
Mindfulness, the practice of being fully present in the moment, plays a vital role in attaining true happiness. By intentionally engaging in activities and appreciating the beauty around us, we can enhance our overall well-being. Sukkot encourages us to connect with nature, reminding us of the inherent joy found in simplicity and the interconnectedness of all living beings. This mindfulness practice transcends religious boundaries, providing a common ground for people of all backgrounds to experience and share happiness.

4. The Power of Connection:
One of the core principles of Sukkot is the importance of community and fostering relationships. True happiness flourishes when we engage with others, embrace diversity, and build meaningful connections. By acknowledging and celebrating our shared humanity, we can create a united front of happiness that transcends religious and cultural differences. Together, we can promote understanding, empathy, and the pursuit of a collective well-being.

This Sukkot, let us unite in our pursuit of true happiness, bringing people of all backgrounds together in a shared journey of self-discovery and fulfillment.
