Good News speaks to concerned citizens and the Mayor of Tarrytown on what can be done to keep the lakes clean. The Good News is that there are many who want to make this happen. The Tarrytown Lakes were originally used to provide water for the village of Tarrytown. With it’s own pumping station, the village had an independent water supply for many years. In the late 1980s, the pumping station needed some repairs. The village made the decision to begin buying water from New York City. The beautiful lakes that are a centerpiece of the village, fell into neglect due to the stagnation of the water. Fast forward over 20 years later and some concerned citizens are trying to get the pump station to its original function.

To just “mothball” the building, put a roof on it and close it up so it does not crumble any further, the costs would be about $ 45,000. This is Phase I of the project. In the report drawings for a new restored building – coming in at about $6.5 million, give or take depending on the details, etc. Ideally we would like to have it be a LEEDS certified building, restored with sustainable materials (solar panels, geothermal heating, etc.) so it is an example for the community of how to do things the right way! Of course this is a bit more costly up front, but on the back end the operating expenses would be reduced considerably. There is a thought to make it a water and environmental museum. Good News Broadcast would like to do shows from the facility for our series The Water Hour.{enclose Tarrytown_Lakes.mp4}
