ZAZ10TS Gallery presents Fractured, a solo
exhibition by interdisciplinary artist Yuli Aloni
Primor, on view March 26 – June 21, 2026, in
Times Square. Installed in the gallery and
extending into the public sphere through the
ZAZ Corner digital billboard in Times Square,
the exhibition places an intimate visual language
within the accelerated rhythm of public urban
space. The two contexts exist in productive
friction: the private made monumental, the
monumental made vulnerable. The exhibition
extends from gallery space into one of the
world’s most visible urban screens.
The work draws on two traditions of repair—Kintsugi, the Japanese practice in which broken
ceramics are reconstituted with gold so the fracture becomes its most radiant element, and
Tikkun, the Jewish ethical imperative to mend a broken world. Together, they form a politics of
visibility: an insistence that the seam be acknowledged rather than erased.
Working between digital technologies and oil painting, Aloni Primor constructs a feminine
mythology suspended between personal history and cultural narrative, between psychological
interiority and public surface. Identity here is neither stable nor given. It is continually
negotiated, fractured, and rebuilt through the tension between external expectation and inner
experience.
As the artist reflects, “The fracture is not failure. It is where the interior becomes visible—where
the private mythology of a woman presses outward into form.”
Within a city that continues, almost against its own velocity, to insist on gestures of human
presence, Fractured proposes that repair is not restoration. It is transformation, and the
fracture, made visible, becomes the work itself.
Alongside the gallery exhibition, the work will also be programmed on the ZAZ Corner
Billboard as part of the In Between programming from March 26 to April 24, 2026. Displayed in
15-second intervals on a large LED screen at the intersection of 41st Street and 7th Avenue,
the work enters the visual landscape of Times Square, introducing moments of reflection.

What you need to know this week — ex-Pentagon chiefs caution Trump, Brexit deal finalised, African free trade bloc opens, and Japan develops wooden satellites. 

Politics

Ten former Pentagon chiefs warn Donald Trump against involving military in pursuing election fraud claims. All 10 living former Secretaries of Defence, who are a mixture of Republicans and Democrats, have cautioned against any move to involve the military in pursuing claims of election fraud. Signatories include Cheney and Rumsfeld as well as two ex- Secretaries of Defence appointed by Trump.

Indian state bans Islamic schools, drawing criticism. Assam, an Indian state ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist party passed a law abolishing all Islamic schools, saying they provided sub-standard education.

UK parliament approves Brexit trade deal with EU as both sides look to future. The deal is inclusive of trade which covers about 20% of the UK economy but doesn’t cover services, including finance. London is Europe’s leading financial centre and it is unclear how the divorce will affect its position.

Thousands march against Nepal PM’s dissolution of parliament. Thousands of opponents of Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli marched through the streets of Kathmandu urging him to reverse his decision to dissolve parliament and call for early elections.

Turkish-Russian ties not an alternative to NATO or EU – says Turkish minister. Turkey’s relations with Russia are not an alternative to its ties with NATO and the European Union, Turkish Foreign Minister told a joint news conference with his Russian counterpart in Russia.

Development

Japan developing wooden satellites to reduce space junk. A Japanese company and Kyoto University have joined forces to develop what they hope will be the world’s first satellites made out of wood by 2023. Research firm Euroconsult estimates that 990 satellites will be launched, on average, every year this decade.

COVID-19 is here to stay. World Health Organization experts have warned that even though the coronavirus pandemic has been very severe, it is “not necessarily the big one”, and that the world will have to learn to live with Covid-19.

Iran tells IAEA it plans to enrich uranium up to 20% at Fordow site. Iran has told the UN nuclear watchdog it plans to enrich uranium to 20% purity, a level it achieved before its 2015 accord, at its Fordow site buried inside a mountain.

Canary Islands sees more than eight-fold increase in migrants in 2020. As north and sub-Saharan Africans grew desperate after losing incomes from tourism and other industries because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 23,023 migrants arrived in the archipelago last year, up from 2,687 in 2019.

Social

Joe Biden says it will take years to vaccinate the US against COVID-19 at the current rate. “Even if we boost the speed of vaccinations to 1 million shots a day, it will still take months to have the majority of the United States’ population vaccinated,” he said. The vaccination takes two shots.

UK extradition decision on mental health grounds a victory for Assange, not press freedom, lawyers and campaigners say.  A British judge’s decision not to extradite Julian Assange to the US was based purely on mental health grounds.

Microplastics found in the placentas of unborn babies. The health impact of microplastics in the body is as yet unknown. But scientists said they could carry chemicals that could cause long-term damage or upset the foetus’s developing immune system. The particles are likely to have been consumed or breathed in by the mothers.

Dissatisfaction with democracy is growing in developed nations, improving in Asia. In the US, society’s divisions have deepened under the Trump administration, leading to demonstrations by opposing forces. In Europe, Britain left the European Union and populism spread.

Virus found to be 3 times deadlier than flu. This is according to coverage of some of the latest scientific studies on the novel coronavirus and efforts to find treatments and vaccines for COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus.

Conflict

Afghan troops, police abandon nearly 200 checkpoints to Taliban. Afghan security personnel have abandoned nearly 200 checkpoints in restive Kandahar province in recent weeks. In some cases, they left behind their weapons which were seized by the Taliban.

Violence closed 800 polling stations in the Central African Republic. More than 14% of polling stations failed to operate during the recent presidential and legislative election due to armed rebels who attacked voters and barred electoral staff, the electoral commission said.

Breakthrough reached in Gulf dispute with Qatar. A breakthrough was reached in Qatar’s three-year-old dispute with Saudi Arabia and three other Arab countries, with an agreement to end their rift to be signed.

Iranian authorities seized a South Korean-flagged tanker in Gulf waters and detained its crew for chemical spill. Seoul confirmed the seizure of a South Korean chemical tanker by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps in the waters off Oman, and demanded its immediate release.

Economics

African free trade bloc opens for business. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aims to bring together 1.3 billion people in a $3.4 trillion economic bloc that will be the largest free trade area since the establishment of the World Trade Organization. The World Bank estimates it could lift tens of millions out of poverty by 2035.

China and EU poised to sign long-delayed investment deal. The investment talks have centred on opening up Chinese markets for European investment and changing forced labour practises.

Africa’s debt and fragile economies likely to cause pain in 2021. Africa’s debt has doubled in the last decade with many countries likely to default. Along with subdued commodity prices, many African nations may experience political and civil unrest in 2021.

Turkey, Iran and Pakistan join China’s belt and road initiative. The governments of Turkey, Iran and Pakistan will revive a transnational rail service linking Istanbul, Tehran and Islamabad in 2021.

OPEC sees oil outlook for first half of 2021 full of downside risks. OPEC sees plenty of downside risks for oil markets in the first half of 2021, its secretary general said, before meeting allies led by Russia to discuss output levels for February.

At a time when politics is more furious and fragmented than ever, when technology is colonising our everyday existence, when COVID-19 is reshaping our lives, we still look to books to make sense of things. Peace in the Age of Chaos is the perfect reading accompaniment in this uncertain period. The world now has an opportunity to reset, but unless we approach global problems with new approaches we won’t meet these challenges.

Asian trade megadeal RCEP signed after years of talks

SINGAPORE — Fifteen countries spanning the Asia-Pacific region on Sunday signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement, creating a vast free trade framework that promises to help speed up the members’ post-pandemic growth.

RCEP, which also sets common rules and standards for a range of economic activity, will come into effect once the participants ratify the pact.

The 15 countries include China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, along with the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Together, they account for around 30% of the world’s gross domestic product and population. Read more.

This week we hosted our 7th annual Finger Lakes Cellar Visits as part of the New York Drinks New York program, which is made possible through generous support from the Genesee Valley Regional Market Authority. The cellar visit connects trade and media from New York City to participating wineries from the Finger Lakes. The participants on this visit included Morgan Harris of Aureole, Ryan Totman of Corkbuzz, Nicolas Prieto of the Grand Hyatt New York, Ollie Sakhno of Keuka Kafe, Barbara Wong of The Modern, Jhonel Faelnar of The Nomad, Chelsea Carrier of Vinateria, and wine/travel writers Susan Gordon and Kat Odell.

Their tour included visits to 12 participating wineries on Seneca and Keuka Lakes, and intimate conversations over lunches and dinners featuring food sourced from the Finger Lakes with eight other participating wineries. Ruth and Scott Osborn of Fox Run Vineyards hosted dinner on Monday night with a six course meal made by Chef Brud Holland, Board Member of the Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty and Fox Run Vineyards Chef. Eric Asimov noted during his visit to the Finger Lakes in November that what makes New York wines great is their food friendliness. We endeavor through the NY Drinks NY program to strengthen the connection between local agricultural products and the wine industry. To that end, Chef Brud made a special puff pastry for dessert that featured a maple bourbon drizzle from Merle Maple Farm paired with a blue cheese from Muranda Cheese.

Several participating wineries used the visit to show off their Saperavi varietals, a grape variety native to the country of Georgia. Dr. Konstantin Frank made one of the earliest plantings of Saperavi in the Finger Lakes in the 1960s, however for several decades wineries could not label their Saperavi wines using the varietal name. Then, Marti Macinski of Standing Stone Vineyards broke through with TTB in 2013 and convinced them to allow Saperavi to be labelled as Saperavi. Last week, we learned that McGregor Vineyards was the only winery to win three awards at first ever International Saperavi World Prize held in Tblisi, Georgia. This is a great example of a New York winery building the industry’s international reputation, so be sure to seek out the McGregor Vineyard Black Russian Red series and the many other Saperavis being produced by Finger Lakes wineries.

There’s Nothing Wrong with Being a Little Sweet on Wine There’s a popular misconception about wine that dry is better than sweet. We love sugary sodas, sweet tea, sweet and sour chicken, sticky sweet barbecue sauces, cookies and cakes and more. And overtly sweet wines are popular, too, judging from sales figures. Yet there is still a perception that sweet wines are unsophisticated and somehow inferior to dry. They aren’t. They’re just different.
Traminette’s Popularity Spreads Across the East: How the white hybrid with vinifera-like quality
was developed and tested. Traminette, an aromatic grape related to Gewürztraminer, has become a popular variety in 19 states. First named in 1996 by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES), the variety has experienced widespread growth from the East Coast to as far west as Missouri. It is very popular in New York’s Finger Lakes region and has been named Indiana’s “signature grape variety.”
The Causal Impact of Medals on Wine Producers Prices and the Gains From Participating in Contests Authors Emmanuel Paroissien & Michael Visser find a strong medal impact indicating that producers of medaled wines can increase their price by 13%. The impact for gold is much larger than for silver and bronze, but they cannot reject that the correlation with quality is the same across the three. Their profit calculations show that the incentives to participate in wine contests are high.

Waters Crest Winery’s Cutchogue tasting room has permanently closed in favor of a private room at a new location that will now cater solely to wine club members.”At this point, it’s a nice time to downsize,” said owner and winemaker Jim Waters, who opened his former Main Road location two years ago after operating for more than a decade on the North Road. “Our wine club is doing very well. That’s the focus. It’s more personal.”
Cornell Experts Lead Hands-on Summer Program in Grape Growing and Wine Making Wine enthusiasts can explore the science of growing grapes and making wine this summer at the Cornell University Viticulture and Enology Experience (CUVEE) in Ithaca, New York, from August 5 to 10, 2018. In this intensive program participants will work in the field and in the classroom, making and evaluating wines, and learning about key agricultural practices; the effects of climate and terroir on grape and wine flavors; the importance of microbiology to winemaking; and the business and marketing aspects of making and selling wine.

The 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition was held Tuesday through Friday last week, drawing 67 judges who sampled 6,960 wines from 35 states before crowning seven as the sweepstakes winners in their respective classes.

Buddhism became the first large-scale missionary movement in the history of world religion. Brought from India, it expanded with the establishment of monasteries along the Silk Road. These monasteries afforded merchants and travelers places to stay as they traversed from place to place. Other religions also spread along the trade route including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Manichaeism, and Zoroastrianism.

China’s search for a breed of large, strong horses – replacing their pony-like horses – capable of carrying armor-clad men into battle was instrumental in the formal establishment of the Silk Road during the Han Dynasty. The success of the trade routes led to the necessity of policing it to thwart the bandits who came to plunder the caravans of goods traversing it. This was partially overcome by building forts and defensive walls, including sections of the Great Wall, along part of the route. Settlements were established as well though mostly in the oasis areas. By the time of the Tang Dynasty, which was known for its internal stability, the use of the horse had expanded beyond the military to that of commerce, entertainment, and sport, including polo, which though referred to as the “emperor of games” and the “sport of kings,” was played not only by royalty but by officials and the upper classes, by men and women alike. After the Tang Dynasty, the traffic on the road subsided as neighboring states again plundered the caravans.

The demise of the Silk Road owes much, too, to the development of the silk route by sea. It was becoming easier and safer to transport goods by water rather than overland. Ships had become stronger and more reliable, and the route passed promising new markets in Southern Asia. Storage jars made in China and Vietnam such as the sampling here of 8 of the 570 found on the wreck of the San Diego, a Spanish galleon converted to a cargo ship, contained preserved food, grain, and fresh water.

Such was the Silk Road and such is Bismuth’s painting of its history and culture.

The head of the Bodhisattva with her beautiful expression and the remaining fragment of her sumptuously ornamented diadem was found in the ruins of Longxingsi, “The Temple of the Dragon Awakening,” in the Shandong province. It is from the Northern Qi dynasty (550 C.E. to 577 C.E.).

The horse is made of terracotta and is from the Tang Dynasty. It was during this dynasty that China reached its apex.

Thus, united herein in Henry Bismuth’s Silk Road are unique segments of its history. While each of the images represents the then, together the whole they create renders an assemblage linking centuries and cultures into the present tense. This is what Bismuth intends. This is his goal. . . to revitalize, to transform, to make us go beyond our conventional thinking, to explore, to see. . . to “link world’s neighborhoods.”

Speaking at the Chinese New Year Spring Reception organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY), Mr Leung said that international airlines opened new direct flights to Seattle, Dallas/Fort Worth and Newark, adding that Cathay Pacific Airways will launch its inaugural direct flight from Hong Kong to Boston in May.

Hong Kong imported US$40 billion worth of U.S. goods last year (2014), and improved access for US agricultural products and made the city the most open market for US beef in Asia. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and the US concluded agreements to combat tax evasion.

Noting that The Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal have recently ranked Hong Kong as the freest economy in the world for 21 consecutive years, Mr. Leung said Hong Kong would continue to capitalise its position as China’s global financial center. “We’ll leverage our ‘superconnector’ role between the Mainland of China and the rest of the world.”

He told the American guests that Hong Kong was working to promote new growth sectors of arbitration, intellectual property trading, creative industries, as well as innovation and technology. “We are upgrading the quality of our workforce as we are facing an aging population and are making it easier for talented people and entrepreneurs from around the globe to come, stay, live, work and establish a business there,” he added.

Also speaking at the occasion, Director of HKETONY, Mr Steve Barclay said aside from promoting closer economic, investment and trade ties, his office aims also to foster cultural ties between Hong Kong and the 31 eastern states.

He highlighted the first collaboration with the Yale-China Association to bring two promising Hong Kong artists to Yale University on a fellowship program. Parry Ling , a relational artist, and Hao Yang, a choreographer/dancer, are currently on a six-month residency at Yale.

Mr Barclay said the Office would organise a week-long “Spotlight Hong Kong” exhibition at Time Warner Center from February 25. The exhibition will focus on Hong Kong’s vibrant mix of East-meets-West cultures – from cultural heritage, creative and film industries to performing arts.

One of the exhibits will be a series of Hong Kong Street Markets which were painted by US nationally recognized illustrationist Michael Sloan during his residency in Hong Kong in 2012-14.

The exhibition will also help promote the US debut of the Hong Kong Dance Company’s performance, “The Legend of Mulan”, at Lincoln Center from March 5 to 8.

To reach out to the US young generation, Mr Barclay said his office has launched a new Facebook – Hong Kong Meets America. It carries all sorts of trendy, useful and interesting information about the city.
To promote Hong Kong music talents, the reception featured performances by the Cornelia String Quartet, led by violinist CheHo Lam; and singer songwriter Mara Measor, both Hong Kong-born and raised.
The reception ended with a grand lucky draw, with the winner receiving a pair of Newark-Hong Kong round trip premium economy tickets sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways.

About 370 guests, mainly comprising key members of the business, government, academic and media sectors, attended the reception in New York.
