Planting Peace in Times Square Virtually Throughout the World to Celebrate the International Day of Peace

New York, NY, September 18, 2025 – Saturday, September 20, 2025, Times Square will transform into a hub for global peace when Pause the World for Peace and May Peace Prevail On Earth International (MPPOE) unite forces to honor the International Day of Peace. The event, held from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM, invites people in Times Square and around the world to participate in a day of unity, compassion, and collective visioning for a peaceful world.

In partnership with Good News Corporation and founder Paul Sladkus, participants will be invited to “plant” a virtual Peace Pole on the world map at www.plantpeace.worldpeace.org/, sharing their personal message for peace.

The day will also feature a powerful World Peace Flag Ceremony, led by MPPOE at 4pm Easten, honoring the 193 nations of the United Nations while uplifting the universal message: May Peace Prevail On Earth.

“Peace and Mother Earth Lovers, there are billions of you—let’s celebrate,” said Paul Sladkus, Founder of Good News Corporation. “Plant a Peace Pole—virtually or physically. Imagine 8 billion Peace Poles around the world! Together, let’s make this vision of global peace visible and real.”

Since 2002, Sladkus and Good News Corporation have supported the International Day of Peace, hosting Peace Vigils in New York’s Central Park and producing media to uplift the voices of peace. Today, their efforts connect with MPPOE’s decades-long mission of spreading peace through Peace Poles, an initiative launched in Japan by Masahisa Goi after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, who envisioned Peace Poles planted in every corner of the world. To date, more than 200,000 Peace Poles have been planted across the globe.

“By inviting people to plant Peace Poles—whether in their communities or virtually—we’re giving the world something tangible to focus collective intention and energy on peace,” said Fumi Johns Stewart, Executive Director of MPPOE. “When people plant Peace Poles inscribed with the message, May Peace Prevail On Earth, we raise the consciousness of our global family to think and act in the Spirit of Peace.”

The event in Times Square is a call for peace, unity, and action. A Global Silent Minute for Peace will be observed at 12 Noon. This initiative reminds us that peace is possible—when we choose it together.

Scientists Just Built a CO2-Eating Machine That Runs on Sunlight

Scientists have developed a sunlight-powered reactor that directly captures CO₂ from the air and transforms it into sustainable fuel.

Unlike traditional carbon capture methods, this device requires no fossil-fuel energy, making it a game-changer for the climate crisis. By mimicking photosynthesis, it produces syngas, a crucial ingredient in fuel and pharmaceuticals, with plans to scale up for liquid fuel production.

Harnessing Sunlight for Sustainable Fuel

Scientists at the University of Cambridge have developed a solar-powered reactor that captures carbon dioxide directly from the air and converts it into sustainable fuel using sunlight.

This innovative reactor has the potential to produce fuel for cars and planes, as well as essential chemicals and pharmaceuticals. It could also provide a reliable energy source in remote or off-grid locations.

Unlike traditional carbon capture technologies, which require fossil fuel energy and involve transporting and storing CO₂, this reactor eliminates those steps. Instead, it directly converts atmospheric CO₂ into useful products using only sunlight. The research findings were published today (February 13) in Nature Energy.

The Limitations of Conventional Carbon Storage

While Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been promoted as a solution to the climate crisis—receiving £22 billion (~$27 billion) in UK government funding—it remains highly energy-intensive. Additionally, concerns persist over the long-term safety of storing pressurized CO₂ deep underground, though ongoing studies are assessing these risks.

“Aside from the expense and the energy intensity, CCS provides an excuse to carry on burning fossil fuels, which is what caused the climate crisis in the first place,” said Professor Erwin Reisner, who led the research. “CCS is also a non-circular process, since the pressurized CO₂ is, at best, stored underground indefinitely, where it’s of no use to anyone.”

Turning a Harmful Gas into Useful Chemicals

“What if instead of pumping the carbon dioxide underground, we made something useful from it?” said first author Dr Sayan Kar from Cambridge’s Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry. “CO₂ is a harmful greenhouse gas, but it can also be turned into useful chemicals without contributing to global warming.”

The focus of Reisner’s research group is the development of devices that convert waste, water, and air into practical fuels and chemicals. These devices take their inspiration from photosynthesis: the process by which plants convert sunlight into food. The devices don’t use any outside power: no cables, no batteries – all they need is the power of the sun.

From Air to Syngas: The Key Breakthrough

The team’s newest system takes CO₂ directly from the air and converts it into syngas: a key intermediate in the production of many chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The researchers say their approach, which does not require any transportation or storage, is much easier to scale up than earlier solar-powered devices.

The device, a solar-powered flow reactor, uses specialized filters to grab CO₂ from the air at night, like how a sponge soaks up water. When the sun comes out, the sunlight heats up the captured CO₂, absorbing infrared radiation and a semiconductor powder absorbs the ultraviolet radiation to start a chemical reaction that converts the captured CO₂ into solar syngas. A mirror on the reactor concentrates the sunlight, making the process more efficient.

Towards Liquid Fuels and Scaled-Up Solutions

The researchers are currently working on converting solar syngas into liquid fuels, which could be used to power cars, planes, and more – without adding more CO₂ to the atmosphere.

“If we made these devices at scale, they could solve two problems at once: removing CO₂ from the atmosphere and creating a clean alternative to fossil fuels,” said Kar. “CO₂ is seen as a harmful waste product, but it is also an opportunity.”

A Future Without Fossil Fuels?

The researchers say that a particularly promising opportunity is in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, where syngas can be converted into many of the products we rely on every day, without contributing to climate change. They are building a larger scale version of the reactor and hope to begin tests in the spring.

If scaled up, the researchers say their reactor could be used in a decentralized way, so that individuals could theoretically generate their own fuel, which would be useful in remote or off-grid locations.

“Instead of continuing to dig up and burn fossil fuels to produce the products we have come to rely on, we can get all the CO₂ we need directly from the air and reuse it,” said Reisner. “We can build a circular, sustainable economy – if we have the political will to do it.”

One thing I have always wanted to do was experience a “flying trapeze”. When I think of it, I am reminded of an article I read many years ago called Fear of Transformation from the book of Essenes.

To paraphrase, most of us spend our lives hanging on for dear life to the old until something calls us to let go and take a leap of faith into the unknown. It can be terrifying, yet we know we must release our hold on the past (the old trapeze bar) and soar across the vast void of unknowing to reach the new one.

We may feel scared, excited, vulnerable, unsure of ourselves, confused, or disoriented, but this is where the real change happens… When feeling unsure of ourselves, we can reject our rigid thinking and make new choices that may bring unexpected benefits. As we give ourselves permission to hang out in this transition between trapeze bars, we learn to fly!

A good affirmation to say each day is “My life is filled with new opportunities, and it is safe for me to learn new things.”

As we move into the last few weeks of 2024 I invite you to spend some time looking back on what 2024 was about for you. Just BE present with what is. We are moving into 2025-a year of major change, right now we are in the growing pains of this shift of consciousness.

Tips for Healing Negative Self-image + Big Event ?

Dear Paul,

“Sticks and stones can hurt your bones but names will never harm you.” NO!

Like many of you, I grew up hearing this, but know that it is not true. We all have experienced the destructive power of negative words, but rarely understand how they can impact our lives and keep us stuck.

In fact, as I was recalling the other day, when I was about 16, a boy I had a big crush on told me: “it’s too bad you aren’t pretty, but you are interesting looking”. That stuck with me for years and sometimes rears its ugly head even now. My brilliant writer friend, whose father always rewrote her school papers, still can revert to thinking she is not good enough even though she has received numerous accolades for her writing skills, and a client of mine, who was bullied as a child, still feels that he is unattractive and “fat”.

According to an article in Psychology Today, “Martin Teicher M.D., Ph.D. and others have shown that there are physical and emotional consequences of “just” verbal abuse. In one study, the researchers found that the effects of parental verbal aggression were comparable to “those associated witnessing domestic violence or nonfamilial sexual abuse.” In fact, verbal aggression produced larger effects than familial physical abuse. There’s evidence too that exposure to verbal abuse in childhood actually alters the structure of the brain.”

The good news is there are ways we are able to rewire our brains and break the cycle of negative self talk. Over time you can replace the negative programming with one that is more useful. It is important to be able to acknowledge yourself as valuable and then treat yourself accordingly. it does not serve you to have a small limited view of yourself. It is impossible to create the life you want if you are always feeling “less than”.

Here are some tips on how to begin (know that you may require the guidance of a coach or therapist depending on how much verbal abuse you have experienced):

Notice the negative self talk as it comes up.
Become aware of how it makes you feel. Where do you feel it in your body?
Is this helping you move into the future that you desire?
If the answer is no, tap your third eye (area between the brows) and say “Cancel Clear”– imagine the thought dissolving.
Now replace the thought with one thing that is more positive using an I AM statement (for example moving from “I cannot write” to “I AM a good writer”)
Visualize your future with this new belief as a reality.

My hope and intention is that we may, as a community, help, transform, or create a pathway towards happier experiences in the workplace.
