Jimmy and Danny Dorrian graciously donated all food and wine for the evening, which included a silent auction of film and TV walk-on roles, consultations, acting and speech lessons, gift baskets, holistic and wellness treatments and packages, and more, a video presentation, a beautiful performance of the National Anthem by Patrick Hale, a Mommy’s Heart hugs booth, and gift bags featuring CBD infused candles and hand sanitizers adorned with the Mommy’s Heart logo. Lorraine Silvetz, MSW, Executive Director of Global Stress Initiative under the auspices of the International Committee Against Mental Illness (ICAMI) announced, during the evening, their donation to Mommy’s Heart for one client to receive a month’s treatment for PTSD utilizing their non-invasive protocol, individualized transcranial magnetic stimulation (iTMS). This treatment, valued at over $12,000, is administered at a Global Stress Initiative clinic affiliate in Syosset, New York, five days a week, for 40 minutes each day and includes 3 EEGs or brain scans in the first month of treatment. In their experience, they’ve had 99% efficacy treating PTSD for the military, domestic violence and other survivors of trauma.

Julianne Michelle (Reeves Stroh), founder and executive director of Mommy’s Heart, stated: “There is a crisis happening, not just in this state or in this country, but around the globe. Family courts are seriously harming, and in other cases, killing innocent children when they move that child from a safe and loving mother into the hands of an abusive parent, ignoring documented histories of drug use and domestic violence. The status quo of denying fit parents their constitutional rights in family courts worldwide MUST stop, as one more death or injury of a child is one too many. A domestic violence survivor should not have to fear losing custody of her child in a retaliatory weaponization of the court system by her abusive ex if she calls 911 to escape a dangerous situation. This is a civil and human rights issue. It’s too late for child victims, Kyra Franchetti, Thomas Valva, and countless other children, who lost their lives to their abusive parent. We must take action now.”

At twenty-one years old, Hope O Baker made one of the hardest decisions a person can make: she placed her son for adoption. She lived with her son’s adoptive mother while she was pregnant and pursued an open adoption. After her son was born, Hope tried to resume her life.

But the difficulty of letting her child go gnawed at Hope. Even though she had it together on the outside—graduating college and excelling in her career—on the inside she was battling a destructive cycle of depression and addiction. 1925 – 1955:

TO ALL THE
KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank – While they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then, after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs
Covered with bright colored
Lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets,
And, when we rode our bikes,
We had baseball caps,
Not helmets, on our heads.

As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes..

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And we weren’t overweight.
WHY?
Because we were always outside playing…that’s why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day .. .
And, we were OKAY.

We would spend hours building
Our go-carts out of scrapsand
then ride them down the hill,

Only to find out that we forgot about brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned To Solve the problem.

We did not
Have Play Stations, Nintendo
and X-boxes. There were
No video games,
No 150 channels on cable,
No video movies
Or DVDs,
No surround-sound or CDs,
No cell phones,
No personal computers,
No Internet and
No chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS
And we went
Outside and found them!

We fell out of
trees, got cut,
Broke bones and
Lost teeth,
And there were
No lawsuits
From those accidents.

We would get
Spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand,
And no one would call child services to report abuse.

We ate worms,
And mud pies
Made from dirt,
And
The worms did
Not live in us forever.

We were given
BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
22 rifles for our 12th, rode horses,
made up games with sticks and
tennis balls, and

-although we were
Told it would happen- we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes
Or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell,
or just Walked in and talked to them.

Little League had
tryouts
And not everyone
Made the team.
Those who didn’t
Had to learn
To deal with
Disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent
Bailing us out
If we broke the law
was unheard of …
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have
Produced some of the best risk-takers,
Problem solvers, and
Inventors ever.

The past 60 to 85 years
Have seen an explosion
of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom,
Failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned

Ho w to deal with it all.

If YOU are One of those born
Between 1925-1955, CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want
to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids before the lawyers
and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it,
forward it to your kids,
so they will know
how brave and lucky
their parents were.

The Film “Remember Us”
A Collection of
Memories from Hungarian Hidden Children of the Holocaust

On the occasion of the Hungarian Holocaust Remembrance Day Saturday, 16th April 2016, a special screening of the film “Remember Us” was hosted by Ambassador H.E. Ms. Katalin Annamaria Bogyay, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations. Present were Chaim Litewski, Chief of United Nations TV, Rudy Vegliante, Executive Producer (Green Leaf Productions) and Evi Blaikie, survivor, who introduced the film and shared some of her own experiences of the war and its aftermath.
Directed by Jason Auerbach and Rudy Vegliante, “Remember Us” is a collection of memories from Hungarian Hidden Children of the Holocaust which focuses not only on who these children were but the adults they have become. This film is not the horror tales of the Holocaust but are the accounts of those experiences and memories of individuals that left indelible impressions in the minds of the storytellers and have influenced their lives. Each story is accompanied by a short biography and photographs of a survivor relating memories of their trauma filled childhood as a child in hiding, as a young adult in the West and as a current adult. Many of the stories are specific memories that were imprinted into the child’s mine. Some were tragic, some were events that changed their lives. “Remember Us” illustrates how children react to the experience of war.
Evi Blaikie writes, and enjoys grandmotherhood. “Magda’s Daughter: A Hidden Child’s Journey Home” was her first full length work. This was followed by “Remember Us.”

Some people always amaze me – Gregory Gallo, a victim of severe brain trauma, yesterday completed his 50th marathon at age 68. Below are pics from mile 17 as well as the blistering cold of pre-race. He became very sick at mile 18, but arm and arm, he persevered just continuing to tell me not to let him quit. In just under 8 hours we crossed. Crazy awesome…. What an inspiration…. Some of the best parts of being alive are moments like these

Prom and graduation are around the corner and as teens embark on this new and exciting time in their lives, they are especially prone to the risks of drinking and driving. Motor vehicle crashes remain the number one cause of death among youth ages 15-20 with nearly 1/3 of traffic accidents alcohol-related. In fact, drivers between 15 and 20 years old are more often involved in alcohol-related crashes than any other age group. And, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one third of youth under age 21 killed in alcohol-related fatalities die during the months of April, May and June.

Dr. Larry Gentilello has published key studies documenting the extraordinarily high contribution of drug and alcohol abuse to life-threatening injury and the potentially powerful impact of hospital-based trauma center interventions to reduce such problems. His research has also identified laws in many states that discourage screening and counseling for alcohol and drug problems in the emergency room and trauma center. He discusses: Ģ The impact of teen drunk driving. The rate of alcohol-related fatal crashes among drivers between 16 and 20 years old is more than twice the rate for drivers 21 and older.
Ģ How parents can help their teenagers avoid the consequences of drunk driving.
Ģ Laws on the books in 31 states that allow drunk drivers to repeat their destructive behavior because they discourage screening and counseling for alcohol problems when patients are seen in the emergency room.
Ģ A new study by Columbia University , which shows that youth binge drinking is reaching epidemic levels — and that binge-drinking college students are more likely to drink and drive. Drunk driving in this group has also increased, as more than half of all college students binge drink. Most of them began drinking in their teen years. Deaths from alcohol-related accidents have risen an alarming 6% in college students.
