It all began in 1943, as a dream of Hick & Nellie Shoults. A dream to have a business the whole family could share in-both the responsibilities and the joys!
From their little farm in Bear Bottom, nestled in the Piney Woods of East Texas, they started with just a few Turkeys, a small little Smokehouse… and a whole world of dreams yet to be realized!
The year was 1943, and the country was at war. Times were tough during those years, but the dreams and aspirations of Hick & Nellie were very much alive! Their son Bobby, then a toddler, was beginning to help Hick feed and tend to the Turkeys as well as do other chores around the Smokehouse.
As the years passed, Bear Creek Smokehouse grew from its humble start… And so did its reputation! The smoked Turkeys that had fulfilled the seasonal orders from the local grocers and Agriculture Extension office were enjoyed so much that the word spread! Year after year the demand grew for a greater selection of delicious smoked meats! Finally, Hick, Nellie and Bobby made the decision to cease raising the livestock and purchase what they needed so they could concentrate their efforts on running the growing Smokehouse!
In 1959, Bobby married his sweetheart Brenda and brought her home to Bear Creek!
Brenda eagerly cherished her new role in the growing family business, cheerfully answering the seasonal calls and taking orders for the ever-expanding list of smoked meat selections that Bear Creek now offered through a catalog!
Then in 1960, Bobby & Brenda welcomed Robbie to the family! This also marked what would become the next phase of remarkable growth for Bear Creek! As the years passed and the Smokehouse expanded into larger facilities, Robbie grew up receiving a first-hand knowledge of the business and he began to form his ideas of what direction to take it!
In 1990 Hunter was welcomed into the Bear Creek Family! As he grew up, he gained a first-hand education in Smokehouse 101!
Even though Bear Creek had a significant wholesale business in place, Robbie yearned to take it to the next level. He & his bride Tracy continued to forge the growing business, complimenting it with several Holiday Gift Shows around the country. These shows met with overwhelming popularity and the business continued to grow over the next few years!
Hunter grew up, opening the door to the modern growth for Bear Creek! He turned his attention to leading the company, along with his new bride Stacia, into the next era of Bear Creek’s expansion… Fundraising!
Now, with Hunter & Stacia’s kids, Cooper & Barrett…The Fifth generation and future look bright for Bear Creek!

For Thanksgiving 2015, we are on a mission to distribute over 10,000 turkeys throughout the NYC area in our annual St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters’ Turkey Drive (#StFFPturkeydrive).**

The recipients of these turkeys are families, including many seniors and children, who may otherwise go without.

With your support, we can lighten the load of families in need this holiday season. So, instead of worrying about their next meal our clients can focus on what is truly important – togetherness.

Serve A Thankful Meal: Delicious Foods and Recipe Ideas
Thankful Centerpiece:

Make decorating the table a group effort. For the centerpiece insert artificial berry sprigs. Then ask guests to add to the arrangement by writing what they are thankful for on paper leaves and tucking them into the centerpiece

Thankful Toast: Have the eldest of the table or host/hostess provide the official toast of “Thanks”
Game
To facilitate the thankful spirit, create gratitude cards using scrapbooking paper and supplies. Cut out cards from scrapbooking papers using decorative-edge scissors and embellish with stamps, stickers, etc. Give the cards to guests before dinner and ask them to write what they are thankful for. As the meal begins to wind down, ask people to share their thoughts.
Drink Tags
Print out our free leaf-shape pattern onto fall-color papers, cut out, and punch a hole at the base of each leaf. Ask guests to pick a leaf and write a word or short phrase describing something they’re thankful for, such as “family” or “good health.” Attach leaves to the wineglass stems using lengths of gold cord or raffia.

Tell The Story
In my home, we start the meal by designating a family member as the storyteller to tell the grandkids about the origins of the holiday

Share Your Family
Welcome a person or family to your Thanksgiving dinner. It is a simple, but powerful gesture. It’s also a great way to establish a family tradition of real unity behind a common purpose and to set the example to share your family and its good fortune.

Share With Others
Sharing needs to be built into a ritual for this holiday. It’s a core component to the celebration. Celebrate what you, as a family, have done this year. There are many great causes to which to donate.

Give Thanks
Show your kids how to find their own voice of thanks. Let people prepare beforehand, so they are not panicked and try to turn this part of the evening into a competitive sport of clever oration.

Eat
As E. P. Powell said, “Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hands of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.”

USCIS to Welcome 144 New Citizens…

NEW YORK — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) New York District Director Phyllis Coven will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America’s newest citizens during a special naturalization ceremony at the NY District Office in Manhattan as part of USCIS’s annual celebration of Veterans Day.

The 144 citizenship candidates originate from the following 52 countries: Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cote D’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Ghana, Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kosovo, Liberia, Mexico, Montenegro, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Serbia, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, St. Kitts-Nevis, The Gambia, Togo, Turkey, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Vietnam and Yemen. Of those naturalizing, two are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

This year, USCIS will welcome more than 10,000 new citizens in nearly 130 naturalization ceremonies between Nov. 7 and 13. Of those being naturalized, more than 250 are veterans, service members and military spouses. USCIS is asking new citizens and their families and friends to share the experience and photos at their ceremonies via Twitter using the hashtag #newUScitizen.

USCIS Will Host Naturalization Ceremonies to Honor Veterans and their Families

WASHINGTON—Veterans, service members and military spouses across the country will become U.S. citizens this week as they take the Oath of Allegiance at special Veterans Day naturalization ceremonies. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will highlight the sacrifices that military members and their families have made while serving our country. From Nov. 7-13, USCIS will welcome more than 10,000 new citizens in nearly 130 naturalization ceremonies across the country and around the world. Of those being naturalized, more than 255 are veterans, service members and military spouses.

Many current and former military members and their families are eligible for citizenship, including expedited screening and overseas processing, under special provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Since Oct. 1, 2001, when data collection on military naturalizations began, more than 109,000 service members have become U.S. citizens, including individuals serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, Germany, Japan and elsewhere. In 2015 alone, USCIS hosted nearly 175 naturalization ceremonies at military installations in the U.S. and abroad.

“On Veterans Day, we salute the men and women who have so courageously served our country and defended the freedoms that it was built upon. Among our brave veterans are thousands of immigrants, many of whom vowed to defend their new home even before they were citizens,” USCIS Director León Rodríguez said. “It is because of their extraordinary sacrifices, and those of their families, that we can enjoy the rights and liberties of living in this great country.”

USCIS has a robust military outreach program that provides information about immigration and naturalization to service members and veterans at military installations, Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals, universities and various military organizations. USCIS also has offices on multiple military installations, including Fort Benning, Georgia; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. These offices identify recruits who may be eligible for naturalization.

USCIS’ Veterans Day activities this year will feature a naturalization ceremony at the USS Torsk and USS Constellation, located at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, on Nov. 11. During this event, Dan Renaud, USCIS associate director for the Field Operations Directorate, will administer the Oath of Allegiance, and Sgt. Maj. Mercy A. Diez of the U.S. Army Band will be recognized as an Outstanding American by Choice.

Other ceremonies include events at:
· American Heroes Air Show in Orlando, Florida, on Nov. 7.
· Cullman Performance Hall of Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina, on Nov. 11.
· Joint Base Lewis McChord in Seattle, Washington, on Nov. 13.

In addition, 12 recruits will become new citizens at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, through the Naturalization at Basic Training Initiative. Developed with the Department of Defense, this program allows enlisted service members to complete the naturalization process during basic training.

USCIS invites new citizens, and their families and friends, to share their experiences from the ceremonies through Twitter and other social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.
