More than two million chocolate-lovers visit this summer, the highest attendance ever for the world’s most visited consumer brand experience

At age 40, Hershey’s® Chocolate World® Attraction shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, the world’s most visited brand experience recorded its best summer season in its history this year and the original location in Hershey, Pa., hosted more than two million visitors from all over the world. The experiential marketing leader continues its momentum as more stores are set to open around the world.

More than 150 million guests have visited a Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction since 1973, and the flagship location in Hershey, Pa., hosts more visitors than any other brand experience in the world.

Record-Breaking Summer Season

Summer is the peak season for Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction and this summer set the attendance record and ensured the popular destination will record its best full-year attendance in its 40-year history. Summer attendance was eight percent above last summer, the previous season record.

Summer 2013 also featured some record-breaking statistics for the original location in Hershey, Pa.:

 More than one million pounds of chocolate sold

 200,000 visitors were immersed in a Hershey’s Kisses digital experience that pulled consumers inside the imaginary factory of the Hershey’s Kisses TV commercial

 175,000 visitors created customized chocolate bars at Hershey’s Create Your Own Candy Bar attraction, a 12 percent increase over the prior year

 75,000 guests learned the art of tasting chocolate through the Chocolate Tasting Adventure

 More than 200,000 guests helped solve a mystery inside the Hershey’s Chocolate Factory with live animated Hershey, Reese and Kiss characters at the “Hershey’s Great Chocolate Factory Mystery 4D Show” launched in May in time for the 40th anniversary

The Hershey’s Chocolate World Times Square store underwent a complete design renovation in 2012 and received top honors in the Visual Merchandising & Store Design (VMSD) magazine’s International Visual Competition.  1973: Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction in Hershey, Pa., opens its doors for the first time, offering chocolate-lovers a “behind-the-scenes” view of the creation of the classic confections through a simulated factory tour ride

The International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 3rd, and marks the 26th year of the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program, created by Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), which reminds people to check, change and test the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors during the fall time change. This message is simple and the habit can be lifesaving. Overall, almost 66 percent of home fire deaths in the U.S. occur in homes without working smoke alarms.

This fall, remember to check and change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, create, plan and practice a home escape plan and remind all of your friends and family to do the same!

Below are some simple home fire safety tips:

• Practice smoke alarm maintenance for a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths.
• A simple reminder from Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs: when you change your clocks, check and change the batteries in your smoke alarms. This can help save lives.
• Test your smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are working.
• Have at least one working smoke alarm on each level of your home.
• Plan, discuss and practice a home escape route with your family in case of a fire.
• Do not rely on your sense of smell to alert you to the danger of being trapped during a fire.
• Do not ignore the chirping sound your smoke alarm makes when maintenance is required.
• Keep fire-starting materials away from children, including lighters, matches, cigarettes, cigars and pipes.
• Use flashlights rather than candles to light your home during power outages.
• Portable space heaters need a three-foot clearance from anything that can burn and should be turned off when leaving your room or home. Carbon monoxide is sometimes called the “the silent killer.” It is colorless, odorless and tasteless.

Bennack served as Hearst’s CEO for more than 28 years. He directed the company through an unprecedented period of growth from when he began his first tenure as CEO in 1979 through June 2013 when he stepped down—increasing revenues 12 times and growing earnings more than 30 times what they had been, through investments, acquisitions and startups. Today, Hearst is comprised of some 200 businesses and 20,000 employees.

Under his leadership, the company launched three leading cable networks with ABC, A&E, HISTORY and Lifetime, and invested in the ESPN family of networks, now in 190 countries and territories. On Bennack’s watch, Hearst has marched toward diversification and global expansion, including its nearly $1 billion acquisition in 2011 of Lagardère’s 100 international titles outside of France, its purchase of healthcare information leader Milliman Care Guidelines LLC, its acquisition of a 50 percent interest in global ratings agency Fitch Group and its establishment of a joint venture with television producer Mark Burnett. Bennack was also instrumental in the decision to create what today is Hearst Television Inc., one of the nation’s largest non-network owned television station groups, which operates 29 television stations. During his tenure, Hearst has launched such magazines as Country Living, Food Network Magazine, HGTV Magazine, Marie Claire and O, The Oprah Magazine.

Bennack has received honors for his charitable work from such organizations as the American Heart Association, United Cerebral Palsy and the Inner City Scholarship Fund of New York. His industry awards include the Gold Medal from the International Radio & Television Society in 1991, the Trustees’ Award (Emmy) from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1993, the 1997 Center for Communication Award, the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Advertising Council in 1999, and the 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. In 2007, he was elected into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
