Ari has been featured in dozens of media outlets including CNN, the Today Show, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Ari received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and an MBA with honors from Kellogg. His philanthropic endeavors included serving on multiple boards such as the JCRC, Hillel, UJA, JFNA and was the NYL Cabinet Co-chair for the Jewish Federations of North America. Notably, Ari has been honored by AIPAC, JCRC, Hampton Synagogue as “Father of the Year”, and was recently awarded the Beyond Duke Service and Leadership award from Duke University. For Baseball fans, he is also a partner and board member in the Derek Jeter led group that purchased the Miami Marlins in 2017.

Honoring Two Giants in the Fight Against Cancer- Samuel Waxman, M.D. Chief Executive Officer and Founder, and Michael Nierenberg, Chairman of the Board, Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF)

The 25th Annual Collaborating for a Cure Gala, one of New York City’s favorite charity events celebrated its silver anniversary at Cipriani Wall Street. The “fun-raiser as opposed to fundraiser” as described by Michael Nierenberg raised more than $6 million towards the goal of funding the next five years of crucial SWCRF cancer research programs such as the Partnership for Aging and Cancer Research Program, the SWCRF Institute Without WallsTM, and the Women’s Cancer Research Program.

Following a cocktail reception across the street, guests made their way to the main dining room where emcee, CBS’s Chris Wragge, welcomed the more than 700 guests, introduced the evening’s honorees, and highlighted many of the Foundation’s groundbreaking achievements over the past 50 years. “Tonight, we have a great program to celebrate two giants in the fight against cancer”, said Wragge.

Upon receiving the Vision and Leadership Award, SWCRF Board Chairman Michael Nierenberg commented, “The real honorees are Dr. Waxman and the great heroes like him who treat and cure cancer every day.”

Founder and CEO Dr. Samuel Waxman, who received the well-deserved and long-overdue Lifetime Achievement Award, spoke to his vision (goal) for a future in which cancer does not have to be a disease associated with aging. “The incidence of cancer is increasing, in part, as a by-product of improvements we are making in human longevity,” said Dr. Waxman. “But through our collaborative research programs, we can flatten this curve. I am thrilled to be a part of many amazing breakthroughs that have occurred in cancer research – with more to come.”

Special guest, author and breast cancer survivor, Musa Mayer, shared why she has been a longtime supporter of SWCRF and very generously offered a $1 million match for all donations made during the gala. “I will be celebrating my 80th birthday soon thanks to the work of this foundation and Dr. Samuel Waxman,” said Mayer.

As in previous years, the Collaborating for a Cure Gala included a live auction during the night’s festivities, including a meet and greet with MT. JOY, culinary experiences at the Cipriani Vault, il Buco Vita, and New York Vintners, and a Palm Bay Italian Winery experience (in Tuscany) to name a few. There was also a raffle for a private 7-day Bahamas cruise aboard an 82-foot, hybrid-powered, luxury yacht.

Zhou the Artist——A Dreamer and His Dreamland

In a word, artist Zhou’s works can be described as generous and
giving, a dreamer who dreams and sow seeds of dream as he travels
100,000 miles a year across China and around the world.
It is common in art for the artist to exaggerate their themes, whether it
be beauty or anguish. In this respect, Mr. Zhou is rather stock.
However, the way in which he chooses to exaggerate his themes is
anything but.
This past Friday on Oct 19, Mr, Zhou had an art exhibit at the United
Nations Headquarter in New York City. His subject matter was the
national parks of America, ranging from Yellowstone Park to the
Niagara Falls.
As a visitor to the States, Mr. Zhou’s time was limited: He had only 40
days to both acquaint himself with his subject and put his themes
onto canvas. Mr. Zhou not only had managed this challenge, he did it
in, well, flying colors. 37 brilliant oil paintings are a feast to art lovers
to savvy and enjoy, such as me, a member of millennium generation
busy making a living in the vast and expensive city with no time nor
means to travel, to stop and to draw.
On the canvases lining the West Terrace of the UN headquarters
were layers upon layers of rich and vibrant paint. Just going by color
scheme alone it is hard to make the connection between these
brilliant patches of color, still seemingly wet, to the arid landscape of
Yellowstone Park. Yet, it is this National Park located atop a volcano
that comes to mind to all those who see it.

Vivek Sankaran, President and Chief Operating Officer of Frito-Lay North America.

As in past years, the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award Gala will include a wide array of Asian ethnicities that represent a microcosm of elite Asian American business owners, professionals and corporate executives across the United States. The award committee identifies and selects outstanding leaders who have built a successful business or who have distinguished themselves in their community. Of those, the committee also identifies top Pinnacle Award recipients who have reached the acme of their professional career and are widely acknowledged as leaders in their industry. This year, the award gala will cumulatively have honored over 750 successful Asian Americans representing over 50 industries and professions. This year’s event follows a successful two-day multicultural business roundtable in January during which John Wang, president of AABDC, announced plans for a New Majority coalition of key minority business groups and a commitment to CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion.

“We believe there is strength in alliances, and at the same time do not want to lose sight of the critical need to honor and showcase the best and brightest from the Asian American business community,” Mr. Wang said.
