EPREAD THE WORDS for OUR JCC GROUP EXHIBITION

        In the past year, the board of directors of the JCC (Jewish Community Center) has met several times to organize a group exhibition joined by more than two dozens of American and Chinese artists invited by, Jing Bao, the owner of Jing Bao’s Moonlight Art Studio, and the president of JIUYA Art Association, XiaoFeng Tong.

And the secret guest will show up in the opening, famous actor SiHan Sun( 孙思翰）

After researching and proofreading, the board of directors of JCC have made decision to present a calligraphy and painting group exhibition with Jing Bao and XiaoFeng Tong, titled as “West Meets East”.

This group exhibition will be a highlight event at the JCC to begin 2023. It includes the artwork of several renowned international artists from America and China, such as Xiaoqing Liu, a famous Chinese actress also known for her calligraphy; 1000 pieces of her calligraphy were sold out within 1 hour last year when she did a live TV Sale for her fan. Chris Spollen, whose artworks have been collected and shown in America, Europe, and China; the Pentagon has an art of his hung on the wall today. Joe Ciardiello, Michael Garland, and Daniel Pelavin, internationally known artists, illustrators, and authors, their work have been featured on most major magazines, newspapers, and for corporate and advertising clients, book publishers and record companies, such as American Express, Audubon, Barnes & Noble, Capitol Records, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Rolling Stone and Time. Their works were included in numerous group exhibitions at museums, galleries, universities, CBS NBC and ABC and many others in the entertainment field throughout the country.
Professor Dazhou Wang has partnered with prominent corporations such as Disney, MTV, Victoria’s Secret, Estee Lauder, Revlon, Clinique, Guess, Brooks Brothers, etc. to develop and design numerous projects. In addition, he has also collaborated with many eminent designers such as Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and so on in product development and design. His art also have been featured around the world including various exhibitions in China which received numerous awards.

The group exhibition also includes famous calligrapher ChangJiang Wang, ShouWu Cong, Chinese painting painter Wei Xu, Staten Island local artist Bill Murphy, and David Bamundo.

As the presenter, professor Jing Bao also has her paintings featured in this amazing group exhibition.

Haven’t seen it? “The Meg” was released simultaneously in the summer of 2018 in mainland China and the United States, and in just three days of release, the box office in mainland China exceeded 300 million yuan; in the United States for three days, it also raked in nearly 200 million dollars! Still haven’t heard of it? When is the last time you’ve been to the movies?

Excellent Sino-American co-production films

Have you heard of “Kung Fu Panda”? The story of a lazy panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu legend. Kung Fu Panda was a global phenomenon: Kung Fu panda was everywhere!

“Kung Fu Panda” ($631 million at the global box office) and “Kung Fu Panda 2” ($665 million at the global box office) have made DreamWorks so much money that the whole world sought for “Kung Fu Panda 3” by a Sino-American co-production! After four years of hard work, “Kung Fu Panda 3” was brought into existence in 2016, earning $400 million at the box office in four days of release and $960 million in its final 30 days, making it the best-selling anime movie in Chinese history ($521 million worldwide).

“Kung Fu Panda 3” set another record as the first ever Sino-American co-produced animated film. The Kung Fu Panda series is the brainchild of DreamWorks CEO Katzenberg and Shanghai Chinese Culture Industry Investment Fund Chairman Li Ruigang. Due to the super strong Chinese behind-the-scenes team, about 1/3 of the entire “Kung Fu Panda 3” film was produced in China.

Another record set by “Kung Fu Panda 3” is the large number of Chinese elements, such as jade and the creation of the incredibly beautiful and verdant Qingcheng Mountain in Sichuan, Po’s hometown. Another example is the Po’s tribe’s skill of Qi Gong, which is one of the essences of Chinese culture. If you go to Qingcheng Mountain, there will be men, women and children practicing kung fu on the mountain. Not to mention those original ink animations and Chinese landscapes, a strong sense of Chinese culture can be seen throughout the entire film.

Here’s the problem: Chinese and American cultures are different, which dictates a different way of storytelling. Chinese people like to teach while being entertained and everything has to end up with a moral. However, in the US, if a movie can make the audience sit in the chair for 90 minutes without moving, then that will be a big success.

Back then, the difficulty was not to find a few hundred million to make a movie. Financing was not a problem in 2012 when Katzenberg teamed up with Li Ruigang and Hong Kong Lan Kwai Fong Group Chairman Sheng Zhiwen to set up the joint venture “Oriental DreamWorks” and create “Kung Fu Panda 3”. The company raised $330 million in its first round of funding based on a 1.6x return on investment for Kung Fu Panda 1 and Kung Fu Panda 2. The joint venture project is 54.55% owned by the Chinese side and 45.45% by the American side. Later, Kung Fu Panda 3 only used 1/3 of the capital.

The biggest dispute between Li Ruigang in Shanghai and Katzenberg was who had the right to make the “Oriental Dream Factory” story.

Li Ruigang insisted that all the animated films produced by Oriental Dream Factory are Chinese stories, so the Chinese side must have the right to speak and must have its own understanding, which means borrowing the “magic hands” of Hollywood to tell the Chinese stories.

Katzenberg, however, insisted on his right to make decisions about the story, saying he knew at a glance what kind of story would sell. His reason was very simple: if he likes you, he’ll pay for you. The average box office of the movies released by DreamWorks was between 400 million and 500 million USD. At that time in China, only “Pleasant Goat” and ”Big Big Wolf” made more than 100 million RMB at the box office. That was the status quo in 2012, and there were only 8,000 screens in Chinese cinemas.

The final solution was to set up a creative executive committee in Oriental Dream Factory by Rui Gang Lai. Katzenberg and Li Ruigang, would get a vote that must be agreed upon. The latter agreement was a betting proposition – if the first three films were successful, Li Ruigang would have the final decision thereafter. Faced with the fast-growing consumer market in China, Katzenberg decided to “bet” on it.

At the same time, a grand dream project was rising with “Kung Fu Panda 3” in a prime location of 8.6 square kilometers in Xuhui Riverside. This project, tentatively named “Dream Center”, was the first cultural real estate project jointly operated by Shanghai Chinese Culture Industry Fund and China Development Finance, with a total investment of about 15 billion yuan. It was the ” Dream Center” that landed in China together with “Kung Fu Panda”.

Such a commercial masterpiece is hard to see in China’s animation industry. Even later, the dark horse of the domestic animation box office champion, “Monkey King: Hero Is Back”, after the box office broke 1 billion, not even a shadow of a derivative product to see. Whereas “Kung Fu Panda” was already planning a $15 billion “Kung Fu Panda” theme park before the movie even started shooting!

Moving away from the success of Kung Fu Panda 1, 2 and 3, China’s box office in 2020 will surpass the 10 billion mark, catching up with the United States. 8,000 screens has increased to more than 80,000. But why isn’t there an inspiring and heartfelt movie like “The Pursuit of Happiness”? In the 40 years of reform and opening up, from 1981’s “Hibiscus Town” to 2021’s “Hi, Mom!” There is not a single story on the screen that can make billions of people around the world eager to know the story behind China’s economic myth. Whether it’s in English or Chinese, China’s economic miracle was created by the Chinese people. How did they create it? What kind of a heartfelt Chinese story can we tell that will bring audiences around the world into the heart of China?

The story we are all looking for is Ma Xiaoqiu’s story. After listening to the 12 songs written and sung by her and several pictures that might become movie commercials, two Hollywood movie production companies decided to start shooting the story of Ma Xiaoqiu.

“I’m writing a Marvel movie,” said a screenwriter for a Netflix series after an interview with Ms. Ma Xiaoqiu. “Today, I saw a Marvel-style hero in my life.”

Another person after listening to Ma Xiaoqiu’s songs: “Ode to Fuxi”, “You are beside me” and ” Mutual Fulcrum ” said he could not help but have tears in his eyes, saying, “This is the Chinese Tao, which enters the world of morality through the power of music.”

Just as Bill Gates envisioned his Windows XBox, Musk today envisioned his plan to fly into outer space with Space X, this screenwriter envisioned his short film about Ma Xiaoqiu’s music as X Tao – The Way to the Unknown: The Power of Music.

In the past 40 years, a Chinese revolution had been going on in the name of reform and opening up. The result is that a powerful China was born. Not only has China become the second largest world economic power, but China’s soft power is permeating every aspect of Chinese life and has been re-shaping China’s corporations and their cultures. In the 80s and 90s, while China was faltering in its direction forward and growing in all areas through trial and error in the daunting face of Western cultures, technology advancements and management efficiency, today’s China, in its newly found confidence, methodology, wealth, and in its lessons learned, is firm on its principles and directions. Ding Yifeng, a grassroots multi-billion dollar asset management firm is such a company. Instead of being a spinoff of a foreign financial firm that had flocked into China in the past decade, equipped with Western sophisticated financial tools, mathematic modeling and certain glamour, Ding Yifeng is 100% home grown. The tools they use mostly are Chinese wisdoms embodied in the Classics such as Book of Virtues 道德经 (bc. 571)and Book of Changes 易经 (over 5000 years old) and the desires not to yield to personal weaknesses and give in to fear and greed, but persevere through will power and patience instilled in them by the oriental wisdom.
“If you rush, you lose investors’ money. No one has the right to do so,” said Ms Ma Xiaoqiu, President and Co-Founder of Ding Yifeng-the three Chinese characters Ding Yifeng 鼎益丰 stand for prosperity, affluence, and harvest. To Ding Yifeng people, stock market is like a game of confidence and mass psychology play a key role. “Even rocket scientists are causing an avalanche and Occupy Wall Street is a social media phenomenal, let alone us. We are small potatoes and we cannot afford to lose,” said one of the drivers to the author. Mind you, the driver was worth 70 million rmb (10 mil USD) today after investing in the company’s cautiously selected two Hong Kong listed companies.
Ding Yifeng owns four Hong Kong listed companies, one of them-HKStock Code 00612- had the world record performance of 1230% return in 2018 and was recommended by four major world leading index, including MSCI China Index, Hengsheng, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Four years ago, Ding Yifeng started to buy 612 stocks on the secondary market when the latter were traded 40 cents per share. In two years’ time, it turned from trash to cash. And the stock price soared to 28 HK dollars per share in late November, 2018.
It just didn’t happen overnight. It was planned to win.

Registered on Jan. 1, 2011, with eight staff members, Ding Yifeng took a tiny hotel room in Pengnian Square, Shenzhen Luohu district, that has a view of Hong Kong skyline. First day in the office, President Ma said that one day they would make it to Hong Kong. All eight of them believed it. Maybe, that is what we would call the power of dream? Or power of a story Ms. Ma once read and learned by heart when she was 11 years old. That story was A Foolish Old Man Who Moved the Mountains 愚公移山. Like all the Chinese kids born in the early 1960s, Ms. Ma lost three and half years of elementary education. The schools boarded up for “making the revolution” of accusing one another for being a counter revolutionary. At the age of 11, the revolution was over and it was time to go to school. Ms. Ma, now 11, could not read nor write. What would it matter anyway to place her at 3rd Grade or 4th Grade? Give her an extra year to catch up. The teacher placed Ma at Grade 3.
“The reason I was not kicked out was because I could recite the three Old Articles by Chairman Mao Zedong. I learned them by heart and recited them to my neighbors on the streets: Serve the People 为人民服务; A Foolish Old Man Who Moved the Mountains愚公移山; and Norman Bethune纪念白求恩. These are all very difficult things to do and these heroes did it—to push the comrade out while oneself was buried alive in the coal mine; to move the mountains; and to die for not one’s own country! True, I missed the basic training of how to spell and write, but I learned to always put others in front. That is a valuable lesson, with which we built a billion dollar company.”
That was true. With her partner, Chairman Sui Guangyi and Ding Yifeng people, in under 8 years, they built Ding Yifeng, an asset management firm with 80 billion RMB under management and the investments were strategically made in six major industries, namely, culture, high tech, investment banking, gold, health and tourism.

The story of Ma Xiaoqiu is not only the story of a contemporary Chinese woman CEO, but also the collective carrying capacity of Chinese women entrepreneurs who nurture and succeed. The Ding Yifeng Group, headed by Ma at the helm, is a model in execution. Her recent speech at UN not only reflects the unique Chinese value systems, but a strong personal statement that one’s fate is connected with the fate of the country. Her speech “Chasing the Sun in My Heart” tells a story from a personal dream to a national dream, from a new angle by adding the company data.
It was impressive.
The book is divided into seven parts with a full text of 250 pages + supplementary readings + 35 photos of the milestone years. It tries to tell a true story from a Chinese perspective and from a Western perspective. When faced with the task of learning from others and also from own culture, each of us is faced with the task of listening to the symphony of life with an open heart and an open mind.
