Young Patrons of Lincoln Center HostsBoogie Nights At Midsummer Night Swing

The Young Patrons of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts held “Boogie Nights”, a benefit at the Midsummer Night Swing, on July 15, 2010 from 6:30pm to 10pm.

Over 700 sophisticated young arts enthusiasts attendedthe “party of the summer” at the Damrosch Park and enjoyed live disco music, professional dance lessons, an open bar with specialty cocktails, gourmet tastings from New York’s top restaurants, and massages. Sponsors included Tibi New Yorkand Vince. Food, beverages,and services were provided by Arpeggio,Bearboat, Blue Ribbon, Bulldog, Chowder House, Graham Beck Wines, Landmarc, L’Artedel Gelato, Mount Gay-rum, Zabar’s, Jeunesse Spa and Salon.

The Young Patrons of Lincoln Center (YPLC) is a membership group for professional New Yorkers in their 20s through early 40s dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and promoting the worlds largest performing arts center. YPLC members perpetuate the limitless possibilities of the arts by building a community of young performing arts enthusiasts whose devotion to Lincoln Center is vital now and in the years to come.

Members are also engaged in addressing issues of critical importance to Lincoln Center as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary as well as contributing to the growth and development of Lincoln Center for the next 50 years.Members make annual contributions of $250 or more and are thanked for their generosity with numerous benefits. These benefits, both educational and social in nature, provide members with exposure to the breadth of performing arts activities available at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc.

About Midsummer Night Swing:

Midsummer Night Swing kicked off the outdoor summer action on June 29 in Damrosch Park by debuting a brand new dance floor. Lindy Hoppers, salsa dancers along with dancers coming to dance the Hustle and bhangra, all had fun.

Hundreds of people came out to dance orto just watch at this wonderful New York City summer tradition. The opening nightBattle of the Bandsfeaturedthe George Gee Swing Orchestra versus the BillElliott Swing Orchestra. Narcotango, the Argentine electronic tango sensation,made its New York debut, along withNashville’s Time Jumpers (western swing), the New Orleans Moonshiners (hot jazz), andLa-33 (Columbian salsa.)

A Midsummer Night Swing first was Bhangra Night, contemporary South Asian dance music rooted in Punjabi folk dance with D.J. Rekha and brass band Red Baraat. Harlem Renaissance Orchestra closed the Swing season with its annual tribute to the great Illinois Jacquet, along with the Second Annual Ambassadors Prize dance contest, honoring pioneer Frankie Manning. L’Orchestre Septentrional, a big band from Haiti celebrating more than 60 years of experience,brought classic compas, and Joey Arias channeled Billie Holiday as a guest of JC Hopkins Biggish Band, joining downtown and theatre favorites Justin Bond and Lea DeLaria. Midsummer Night Swing ran from June 29 through July 17 in Damrosch Park.
