Friends of DeCosta Headley to Honor Humanitarians at Annual Dinner Many philanthropists toil and make personal sacrifices—with pleasure—because of their commitment to improving the lives of others.  Few realize the challenges and obstacles that some of us encounter in raising funds to support worthy causes.  So, it’s always a great feeling when someone acknowledges these efforts. I experienced such a moment a few weeks ago when I received a letter from the Friends of DeCosta Headley (FODH).  The organization’s larger-than-life namesake, DeCosta Headley, wrote that he learned about my work with orphans, commitment to nurturing young leaders and other humanitarian activities – and wanted to honor me as Humanitarian of the Year at his upcoming annual gala. After meeting … [Continue reading...]

Philippe Hatem Foundation for a Happy Childhood

April 29, 2013 By David Katzmire Leave a Comment
Philippe Hatam Foundation

The idea to create the Philippe Hatem Foundation for a Happy Childhood [PHF] came from our profound need to carry the message of Philippe's life. Those of us who knew him, know that his time on earth was different than for most of us. And all of us, adults and children, all learnt something from this little boy, who seemed to be wiser than most. His loving and compassionate spirit was so magically contagious, that we decided it needed to live on no matter what. His life may have been short, but it was meaningful, and PHF will carry his message of hope, smiles and compassion wherever the Foundation takes us. The PHF aims to make less fortunate children of the world happier, and to regain the desire to live and mature into good people. As misery sweeps through children's lives in all … [Continue reading...]

The Serenity Prayer

April 19, 2013 By David Katzmire Leave a Comment

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.--Reinhold Niebuhr In loving memory of Fr Bertram Griffin -- 1932-2000 Requiescat in Pace Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
