A novel by Terry Jastrow
On a glorious autumn morning in Saint Andrews, Scotland, former US president George W. Bush approached the first tee of the world famous Old Course to play a round of golf he would not finish.
Unceremoniously abducted off the course by a team of paramilitary commandos, he was transported to the International Criminal Court in The Hague to stand trial for war crimes in connection with the Iraq War.
The ICC had spent one year accumulating evidence sufficient to indict George W. Bush as the single person most responsible for the war. Would he be found innocent or guilty, or would something happen that would disrupt the administration of justice?

I just returned from Los Angeles, where my mother posthumously received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYS. What an incredible night! My parents are deceased but continue to inspire me and countless others each and every day. Seeing the video tribute to my mom, hearing the Special Olympics athletes tell the world that she gave them hope, a place to belong, a reason to live and that they themselves are agents of change....wow!
I was most touched by an old video of mom saying that “it’s welcome, inclusion, love…that’s what built our country.” Those words hit home and I think are a good reminder, and a good challenge, to us all.
My mother devoted her life to leveling the playing field for people with developmental disabilities. At Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), we’re … [Continue reading...]

Remain Top Priority for Lawmakers
There has been ongoing debate over the issue of immigration and refugees for many months here in the U.S. and around the world.
And in June, there is a day dedicated to refugees -- to raise awareness to their needs and plight, realizing the horrors they have endured in leaving their homeland to find a safe place to live. It's a time to try to work together to ensure every refugee child gets an education, every family has a safe place to call home and every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community.
And now, thousands of refugees are also united by one flag. An orange and black flag inspired by the life vests most all had to wear in their search for a safer land to live. … [Continue reading...]
