At New York, New Works, Sleeping With Earrings On is the story of three sisters. While the middle sister, Maggie, is preparing to marry the woman of her dreams, tension between the sisters threaten to tear the family apart. Originally presented as a short play, "SWEO" won the top prize at the New York New Works Theatre Festival this year. Inspired by the win, this cast and crew of women plan to bring their story of unconditional love to a greater audience, in a short film. They feel it is important, right now, to tell stories with rich and complicated (particularly women and LGBT) characters and "SWEO" promises to deliver.

At only 16 years old, a junior, in high school, it was on December 11, 2008 when Amanda Suzanne Brownell tried to take her life in a bathroom at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. This was a result of the bullying, sexual bullying, and cyber bullying she endured through MySpace, Facebook, AIM, and the 3500 text MESSAGES she received the month before her suicide attempt. Amanda, suffered severe brain damage, unable to speak or care for herself.
After almost 4 and 1/2 years Amanda decided that her job here was done. She was hospitalized with pneumonia and seizures on March 13, 2013, while her parents were in Hawaii on vacation. On March 23, Amanda did not want to be poked and squeezed anymore. She was done and did not want any type of medicine or food. There was a family meeting … [Continue reading...]

The Pursuit of Happiness

Jefferson's three examples of our unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Happiness is the state of Felicity.
It has been said that it's not how much we have but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness (Charles Spurgeon).
Lincoln added most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.
The top 10 things that come mind that make me happy are (not necessarily in the order of importance):
1) French Champagne
4) Winning (fun is more fun when you win)

And being Good Samaritans for the ALS cause. They are heroes:):):)
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one's head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014.
The challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads. A common stipulation is that nominated people have 24 hours to comply or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation.

THE GIVER- THIS IS A POWERFUL MOVIE ON WORLD PEACE, TODAY AND THE FUTURE. DON'T MISS IT.
The Giver. As I watched the Press Conference in awe for this outstanding movie team, I was fascinated with the author of the book Lois Lowry and the screenwriters Michael Mitnick and Robert B. Weide. How did they weave her book to make you realize how stupid war is; How Deceitful the Elders (the political leaders) could become and how wonderfully innocent and intuitive our youth are?
The result of this books screen adaption, which is drenched in "the light and the darkness of life" (As suggested by Marcello Padilla, Good News Film Producer), is that our youth SAVE US from OURSELVES, THE GROWN UPS. They see the brighter tomorrow and have the strength to make changes..BRAVO…to … [Continue reading...]

Lindsay Doran is a highly successful Hollywood movie producer. With a string of hits to her name that includes Sense and Sensibility, The Firm, Sabrina, Stranger than Fiction and Nanny McPhee, even some of her "misses" could be considered hits. In October of this year, I was fortunate enough to hear her speak at the Austin Film Festival on a panel entitled "The Soul of Story." She spoke passionately for 90 minutes without so much as a sip of water or a glance at her notes. You could hear a pin drop in the room.Doran became interested some years ago in the "Positive Psychology" movement pioneered by Martin Seligman. In his book Flourish, Dr. Seligman identifies five particular qualities that he says make life worth living: Positive emotions, engagement, positive accomplishments, … [Continue reading...]
