David Glover is currently the Assistant Conductor of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. This season with the orchestra he assists and covers all Lilly Classical Series concerts as well as conducts Discovery, Family Series, and Side-by-Side Concerts. He is a frequent host of the Indianapolis Symphony's Words on Music, their pre-concert lecture before each performance. Richie Havens was an American folk singer and guitarist. He is best known for his intense and rhythmic guitar style (often in open tunings), soulful covers of pop and folk songs, and his opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. About 30 of my classmates from a 3 year music class, from 1956-1959, are reuniting together, with our music teacher, Ruth Abramowitz. Mrs. Abramowitz is 94 years old, and represents to each of us, her students, an angelic figure who gave us unconditional acceptance and love, and introduced us to the world of classical music composition, in the context of a full string orchestra. We played violin, viola, cello, and string bass. She is currently somewhat frail, and we hope simply to honor her on June 1, with with simple expressions of our appreciation, and possibly a couple of songs. There has been little or no contact among all of us for 55 years, but in the past month, our connectedness has been ignited, and intensifying.
