September 21, 2014. Good News and Ben and Jerry’s are the last groups at the March. Ben and Jerry’s globe stated if it is melted it is ruined. We here at Good News with our series, The Water Hour are fully aware of the concerns of WATER. We helped create World Water Day at the UN with our associate Phil Sauers of the World Water Rescue Foundation. Our participation at the march was for Peace and for Water, in fact we feature a song that Pete Seeger titled Water not Weapons. Go to www.goodnewsplanet.com

At only 16 years old, a junior, in high school, it was on December 11, 2008 when Amanda Suzanne Brownell tried to take her life in a bathroom at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. This was a result of the bullying, sexual bullying, and cyber bullying she endured through MySpace, Facebook, AIM, and the 3500 text MESSAGES she received the month before her suicide attempt. Amanda, suffered severe brain damage, unable to speak or care for herself.
After almost 4 and 1/2 years Amanda decided that her job here was done. She was hospitalized with pneumonia and seizures on March 13, 2013, while her parents were in Hawaii on vacation. On March 23, Amanda did not want to be poked and squeezed anymore. She was done and did not want any type of medicine or food. There was a family meeting … [Continue reading...]

The Pursuit of Happiness

Jefferson's three examples of our unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Happiness is the state of Felicity.
It has been said that it's not how much we have but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness (Charles Spurgeon).
Lincoln added most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.
The top 10 things that come mind that make me happy are (not necessarily in the order of importance):
1) French Champagne
4) Winning (fun is more fun when you win)

And being Good Samaritans for the ALS cause. They are heroes:):):)
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one's head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014.
The challenge dares nominated participants to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads. A common stipulation is that nominated people have 24 hours to comply or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation.

THE GIVER- THIS IS A POWERFUL MOVIE ON WORLD PEACE, TODAY AND THE FUTURE. DON'T MISS IT.
The Giver. As I watched the Press Conference in awe for this outstanding movie team, I was fascinated with the author of the book Lois Lowry and the screenwriters Michael Mitnick and Robert B. Weide. How did they weave her book to make you realize how stupid war is; How Deceitful the Elders (the political leaders) could become and how wonderfully innocent and intuitive our youth are?
The result of this books screen adaption, which is drenched in "the light and the darkness of life" (As suggested by Marcello Padilla, Good News Film Producer), is that our youth SAVE US from OURSELVES, THE GROWN UPS. They see the brighter tomorrow and have the strength to make changes..BRAVO…to … [Continue reading...]

As the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prepares for July 29th – August 1st listening sessions on its Clean Power Plan for existing power plants, a new report from Ceres and Clean Edge ranks the nation’s largest electric utilities and their local subsidiaries on their renewable energy sales and energy efficiency savings. The report found that many utilities are deploying lower carbon fuel sources and that state policies are a key driver in that performance, but there is variability in performance even among utilities operating in the same states.
A first-of-its-kind report, Benchmarking Utility Clean Energy ranks the 32 largest electric utility holding companies, which collectively account for about 68 percent of 2012 U.S. retail electricity sales, on three clean … [Continue reading...]
Picture a young surfer dude wandering around a dock lined with charter boats. A grizzled old captain yells out, "Hey, kid, you want a job ?" That was exactly how Captain Mike Vegessi got his start in Montauk fishing in 1977. He had never been fishing before and was drawn to Montauk for the surfing, not the surf casting. The grizzled old captain was Doug McCabe of the "FRANCES ANNE", nearing the end of his career as one of Montauk's offshore pioneers, and Mike would be his mate for the next three years. In addition to learning the fishing business, Doug, who also owned a diesel parts business catering to the fishing boats in Montauk, taught Mike all he needed to know about the maintenance of diesel powered boats.
Doug retired in 1979, and the next year Mike went to work as a mate for … [Continue reading...]

The exploration of ways to create a “sellable” approach to the daunting task of establishing a firm ceiling on greenhouse-gas emissions is important enough that I’m adding another post on this for the weekend.
A Dot Earth reader, Jay Rappoport, followed up on Peter Barnes’s proposal for a “cap and dividend” system with another take on the idea that’s worth highlighting here, if only because the central metaphor is so easy to absorb — having a “bottle bill” for climate.
Of course, one problem with most bottle bills around the United States is the fee hasn’t risen to adjust for inflation, so many bottles still go into the trash because the five-cent surcharge is a yawn. And many drink containers (like all those water bottles!) are left out in most cases. (This recent … [Continue reading...]
