As we approach Valentine’s Day, many wonder how they can find that special someone, and many turn to online dating services. In fact, according to a recent survey Pew study (October 2013), one in ten Americans have used an online dating site to find their spouse or long-term partner.
Of course, online dating has its own pitfalls, and Andrea Syrtash, media spokesperson and best-selling author, is available to share online survey information and strategies on how your listeners can increase their chances of finding love online without getting burned:
o THE MEETING – Establish a relationship before you meet in person. More than half (54%) of online daters have felt that someone else seriously misrepresented themselves in their profile.
o BEFORE THE DATE – Video dating is the wave of the future. There’s no reason you have to leave your home before deciding if you click with your prospective date. Have your first date via a Skype Video Call.
o THE 1st DATE – Find an activity you both want to try; even if there’s no connection with your date, you’ll still have an enjoyable experience.
o DATING – After meeting in-person and feeling a spark, continue to embrace technology that brought you together. Once you’ve been out a few times and the connection is growing, get creative by sending a Skype Video Message to invite your date to something fun or as a unique thank you for a fabulous night. It takes a minute of your time, and will keep you both excited.
Remember, if you don’t have a match on Valentine’s Day, don’t stress. More than 40 million Americans – close to half the single population – are meeting online and using technology to find connection. Online dating is like shopping at a big bargain sale. You have to sift through a bunch of junk to find the gems! And remember that even a bad date makes a good story.
