Last Thursday, he hosted an Iftar dinner in the courtroom of Brooklyn Borough Hall to break the daily Ramadan fast with over a hundred Muslim Brooklynites, including local religious leaders and ambassadors from Middle Eastern and Asian nations; over twenty-five area mosques and cultural organizations sponsored the celebration, which recognized a number of community members for their advocacy and support of issues affecting Muslim-Americans. After 28 days at sea the Flagship of the Ecuadorian Navy known as “Buque Escuela Guayas” left its home base of Guayaquil, Ecuador May 12, 2015 on its first trip around the world. During its nine months tour at sea the ship will be home to 13 officers (4 women), 78 crew. 9 musicians and 41 midshipmen (7 are women). The Guayas is a beautiful three-masted barque used for training youngsters for a naval career. Built in Bilbao, Spain she is named after the river on which the Ecuadorian Naval School is situated. The school was founded by the liberator of South America, Simon Bolivar and has been taking cadets from this school since she was launched in 1976.

NEW YORK — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) New York District Director Phyllis Coven will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America’s newest citizens during a special naturalization ceremony at the New York Public Library on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11:00 am. Keynote speaker Nisha Agarwal, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs for the City of New York will offer congratulatory remarks.

In New York City, thousands of Filipinos, Filipino-Americans, and families & friends gather to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day Parade held every first Sunday in June. It is a day for festivities, family, and plenty of food for Filipinos in the metropolitan area. Everywhere you can see the Philippine flag and its colors - which are red, white, blue, and yellow.
