Memorial Day

As long as I can remember, even marching in parades I have  been hoping that  Memorial Day would not be needed to honor ANY NEW  fallen heros.  Our past is our past and to give repect to those who died for peace, freedom or for innocent  citizens affected by war is honorable.  Our dream and the dream of billions is that one day there will be no need  to send our young people to war.   The saying goes in time of war fathers bury their sons, in time of peace sons bury their fathers.  Let's all pray and visulize NON VIOLENT PEACE ON EARTH  this Memorial Day. More than 350 women -- leaders of industry, media, government, and the arts -- let power go to their hearts at this sold out Citymeals-on-Wheels 24th annual Power Lunch for Women. This by-invitation-only benefit, emceed by Juju Chang, News Anchor, Good Morning America, was expected to raise enough money to provide more than 156,000 meals for New Yorks frail aged.At the conclusion of the event, a total of $1,143,922 was raised to support Citymeals-on-Wheels, enough to provide 178,000 meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers in need. What does peace look like to me?

Over 3,000 kids from 46 schools in 30 countries asked themselves this question while creating their "piece for peace" at CITYarts Pieces for Peace workshops. 265 artworks representing their hopes are included here, as well as in a traveling exhibition and on our website. More countries are enlisting every month, joining a youth movement for peace. By now, we all realize that "thinking globally and acting locally" is not a choice but a necessity of our times - we truly live in a global community. I see art as a powerful catalyst that can be used to express and transport ideas beyond borders. Peace talks in Cyprus

Since 1974, Cyprus has been divided. At the time, Turkish troops occupied its northern third following a Greek Cypriot coup. ?The announcement of possible reunification came after Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat met for two hours in the UN-controlled buffer zone which divides the island. The agreement came after discussions between the leaders of the rival Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. Talks have been stalled since 2004 when Greek Cypriots rejected a UN peace plan which was backed by Turkish Cypriots. The island has been divided for 34 years into a breakaway Turkish Cypriot north and the Greek Cypriot south.
