James W. McGlothlin began his career as a practicing attorney before he founded United Coal Company in 1970.  As president, he used a keen business sense and visionary leadership to evolve United Coal Company, a leading producer of high-grade metallurgical coals, into The United Company.  He led the company for 39 years as a chairman, president and CEO, and continues to serve as chairman and CEO.  With busness interests comprising coal, oil, gas, financial services, pharmaceuticals and leisure services, The United Company is one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S. A native of Grundy, Va., McGlothlin has been an advocate of education at all levels, particularly Mountain Mission School.  He serves with distinction on the board of trustees at The College of William and … [Continue reading...]
