
James W. McGlothlin began his career as a practicing attorney before he founded United Coal Company in 1970. As president, he used a keen business sense and visionary leadership to evolve United Coal Company, a leading producer of high-grade metallurgical coals, into The United Company. He led the company for 39 years as a chairman, president and CEO, and continues to serve as chairman and CEO.
