My good friend, and sometimes co-facilitator on the Idaho Wilderness Experience, Stephen McGhee, was inviting a friend of his, Mark, to join in on the adventure. Steve sent Mark an email encouraging him to move past his reasonableness. In it he listed “20+ reasons to join us on the Wilderness Experience”. I thought it was very good. I felt lifted after reading it, and had a chuckle or two. The list has grown over the last couple years as others added to it. So I thought I’d pass it on to you. [There are still a couple spaces available in the August 16 – 25 Idaho Wilderness Experience.] 1. It will refresh you Soul. 2. You’re not getting any younger. 3. You ARE getting OLDER. 4. Life is short. 5. When was the last time you remembered what you did for 10 days? 6. The price may go up next year. 7. If you’re from Europe you get a 48.49% discount (That’s how much the dollar has depreciated against the Euro). 8. The Wilderness is shrinking every year. 9. So you can have something exciting to share at the next barbecue you attend. 10. “If not now then when?” – JFK 11. Very few people chose themselves over all the reasons not to go. 12. You will do something most people will not do. 13. It will make your life better. And you too. 14. You will feel, look and act younger than you have in many years. 15. You will come back in better shape than when you left (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually) 16. You will meet some amazing, like-minded, forward-focused, loving people. 17. You might fall in love, at least with yourself. 18. Because it’s fun and spontaneous. 19. Time goes, “bye”. 20. The food is awesome. 21. Because your computer wants a break from you, and you from it. 22. There are no cell phones allowed. 23. The sun is your alarm clock. 24. Because of the secrets I cannot tell you, because then they would not be secrets. 25. Because you are smarter than the average bear. 26. Because there are no bears in the Sawtooths. 27. Because permits to preserved Wilderness are getting scarcer and harder to obtain. 28. Because “Darn it!” I like you and I want you to go. 29. Did I say, “Because life is short”? 30. What do you think you will remember most in your rocking chair: How you spent ten days being reasonable? Time working in your office? Being at home doing dishes? Or that you spent ten amazing days experiencing a trip of a lifetime in pristine wilderness, doing wonderful things with incredible people. And just being you. Pure you. The most you you’ve possibly ever been. 31. You’ll get some free gifts. 32. Spontaneity becomes you, and reasons make you look older. 33. Your backpack is rusty. 34. The food is paid for. 35. Love is in the air, with every sight and every sound. 36. It’s good for your health. It’s good for your spirits. 37. You will have more fun than ever, and come home ready to kick some a__. 38. There are very few mosquitoes in the Sawtooths. 39. When is the last time you were away from a phone for ten days? 40. George W is not going. ( just a little humor) 41. You can borrow my thermal socks. 42. I need you to teach me the rock climbing knots (I get really confused). 43. You can have the top bunk at the end of the trip. 44. The pristine nature of the Sawtooths gets less pristine each year. 45. Life is short, or you are short, I cannot remember which. 46. Did I mention, Life is short. 47. Gosh. Well. Cause I miss you. 48. It will help your pool game. ( You will understand later) 49. You will learn something new. 50. Because naked bodies are beautiful (No that’s not one of the secrets). 51. Because you’ll see more stars than you knew were up there, through cleaner air than you knew was here. 52. You will see something new about yourself. 53. The trip would be better with you there. 54. You deserve a break today, so get up and get away to the Sawtooths. 55. Because if you’re still not sure yet whether you want to join us, I would like to gently check your pulse. You get my point. I challenge you to come up with Forty reasons for not coming, and I will gracefully relinquish my position. However, if in fact you do not, then I anticipate you will be arranging a plane to Boise. Ok, so there were more than 20 reasons. If you feel spontaneous, or feel like going for it, or feel like putting yourself in an environment where you’ll gain some peace, clarity, rejuvenation and perspective, we still have a couple spaces in the August 16 – 25 trip.
