Grammy Award Winning Artist and Producer Swizz Beatz to Be Announced as Chair of “Friends of Bronx Arts” Committee at Bronx Arts Recognize Event
Holiday Fundraiser to “Recognize” Beatz and Other Notable Community Members and School Supporters
WHAT: On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, Bronx Charter School for the Arts will designate Grammy Award winning artist and producer Swizz Beatz as Chair of “Friends of Bronx Arts,” a special committee for avid supporters of the school. The inaugural “Bronx Arts Recognize” event will be held at exclusive New York nightlife venue Avenue and will honor (in addition to Beatz) four key Bronx Arts supporters, including: The Honorable Maria Carmen del Arroyo (New York City Council Member), Frances Engoron, Russell Granet and Barbara and Edward Wilson.
The Recognize event was developed to personally thank “Friends of Bronx Arts” for their great contributions to the school community. Its intent is to highlight the tremendous work that has influenced the school’s mission, teaching philosophies and practices. Bronx Arts Recognize is designed to publicly acknowledge the impact that key individuals have had on the school.
Swizz Beatz has served as an ongoing supporter and friend to Bronx Arts for the past several years. Beatz’ designation as the “Friends of Bronx Arts” committee chair will solidify a partnership with the school and will provide a platform for establishing a long-term leadership position and decision-making role.
An advocate for arts in education, Beatz is committed to assisting the school with achieving its fundraising objectives for its after-school program, which provides academic intervention—as well as arts and enrichment activities—for over 100 Bronx Arts students. Through the after-school program initiative, students receive an additional three hours of instruction each week and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of arts and enrichment programming, such as the Bronx Arts Band and Dance Team.
