SAN DIEGO In celebration of some of the worlds most accomplished and inspirational physically challenged athletes, the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), is hosting a series of events in New York City from June 3-12 to raise awareness and funds.The weeks highlight, the fourth annual A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope gala will take place on Wednesday, June 9 at the Waldorf Astoria.NBA legend Bill Walton and three-time Grammy winning recording artist Bruce Hornsby will attend the gala, along with more than 20 talented challenged athletes.www.ChallengedAthletes.org
The Heroes, Heart and Hope gala begins at 6:00 pm with cocktails and a silent auction in the Astor Salon. The dinner and program begin at 7:30 pm in the Grand Ballroom. Raphael Allusson; Six-year-old New Jersey native was born with a high congenital above the knee amputee, he will finally achieve his dream of running like a cheetah when he is presented with an advanced technology Ossur running leg from Bill Walton during the gala; Raphael will have his first chance to use his new running leg on Saturday, June 12 at a Mobility Workshop at Chelsea Piers
