Dear Friends,

Lately, each week seems to be bookended by signs of hope and despair. The crowdfunding phenomenon has lots of potential and shows a wonderful side of humanity – Imagine being able to invest in solar or small wind in your community and get an income stream from it?

Also exciting is the idea of a pan-European Super Grid, connecting renewable energy across the continent – geothermal from Iceland, wind and wave energy from Northern Europe, and solar from the south and northern Africa.

Yes, there’s also despair, as it becomes ever-clearer how much resistance there is to transitioning to a low carbon economy. Over the past months, sources of climate denial have become clear, whether it’s from obnoxious billboards, outright attempts to prevent clean fuel standards or to rescind state Renewable Portfolio Standards and regional climate cap-and-trade pacts.

The latest is a memo uncovered that calls for a national subversion campaign to turn American opinion against renewable energy.
