Cancer isn’t funny. Or can it be? Matt Marinovich is a first-time novelist whose book, Strange Skies has just been published by Harper Perennial this Monday. It’s about a guy who lies to his wife about having cancer to get out of having kids. It’s a dark, funny book about the strange places we end up when lies become the truth. It also takes a risk, since it’s about the supposedly morbid, unfunny topic of cancer. Strange Skies has some interesting back story, since Matt had cancer himself, and struggled with how to express the rage, confusion, and hopelessness that came with that diagnosis. Only recently have writers started to take a different approach to writing about disease from Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips and Why I Wore Lipstick to my Masectomy, therefore we think you might be interested in checking out this comic novel and hearing more about the story behind it.
