Polo without polo. Mud versus match? As I watched a cool thunderstorm and sheets of rain fall from the sky I wondered if the Polo Challenge would go on. A half hour before the Challenge, almost on cue, the rain stopped and sun appeared. Mother nature won out as disappointed polo watchers had to wait another week as this Polo Challenge got rained out. For those fortunate VIPers, the VIP Polo tent still went on.
As I parked my car adjacent to the Blue Star Jets Field I was amused watching women wearing stilettos dodge mud piles on their way to the VIP polo tent. I smiled at the absurdity of it all (heels in mud) as I admired their technique and took notes. Maybe it was the thought that I was not far behind. Regis and Kelly would have been proud. Should Regis and Kelly consider a high heel marathon in the mud (insurance required) the polo parking lot after a drenching would be an ideal location. To be fair, I did not see any men wearing galoshes. For those who made it, it was worth the trek.
