Hot Topics from Annual meeting of the APHA, the nations’s largest pharmacy conference in San Diego. ***PHARMACISTS FINDING NEW WAYS TO HELP CONSUMERS*** DRUGSTORE INDECISION & HOW TO CHOOSE OTCs New Study Shows Pharmacists are “MOST TRUSTED” Source for Providing Information Consumers Need to Know When Treating Common Ailments A recent survey from the National Council on Patient Information and Education found that 66% of adults said that picking the right non-prescription drug is enough to make their heads spin.* So how does a consumer choose when there are more than 100,000 over-the-counter meds to help them with everything from cold sores to constipation and heartburn to headaches? Studies show that they often ask their pharmacists, which is why the American Pharmacists Association asked 5,000 practicing pharmacists for their opinions on OTC drugs.* Dr. Stefanie Ferreri is a reseacher who specilizes in Community Pharmacy Education, meaning she looks for ways to clear up consumer confusion and educate pharmacists on how to best help people with problems. Ferrerri is also one of 7,000 practicing pharmacists who will be in San Diego this March for APhA, the nation’s top pharmacy meeting. On March 14, she’ll share some of the innovative ways pharmacists are helping consumers with drugstore indecision and new insights on some OTC medications that are being discussed at APhA.
