Our member companies offer medical expense insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance, dental insurance, supplemental insurance, stop-loss insurance and reinsurance to consumers, employers, and public purchasers. AHIP’s principal purpose is to represent the interests of our members on legislative and regulatory issues at the federal and state levels, and with the media, consumers and employers. We provide information and services, such as newsletters, publications, a magazine, and on-line services. We conduct education, research, and quality assurance programs and engage in a host of other activities to assist our members. All our programs are designed to serve our member organizations and to inform policy makers and the public about health care financing and delivery. A Board of Directors representing of our diverse membership governs America’s Health Insurance Plans. With direction and input from operating and product committees, the Policy Committee and the Executive Committee – as well as through issue-focused task forces, subcommittees, and working groups – the Board shapes and guides our policies, programs and campaigns. This broad-based leadership is at the core of AHIP’s strength and the key to its effectiveness. The AHIP Foundation is the non-profit, 501(c)(3), educational, scientific, and research arm of AHIP and is headquartered in Washington, DC. The Foundation seeks to build on the health insurance plan industry’s dedication to innovation and advances in care delivery. The Foundation strives to create, support, and enhance programs in health insurance plans which will improve quality, effectiveness, and value in health care through research, education, information sharing, and other activities which strengthen and reward exemplary practices by individuals and organizations. AHIP helps to bring about deep and abiding improvements in the health care system by ensuring that the best health care practices are understood and disseminated to a wide audience. The Foundation’s goals are to: * Change and improve delivery systems * Increase the effectiveness of treatment systems for the chronically ill * Support the development and use of effective practices * Increase the application of evidence-based medicine * Provide substantive performance measures and quality improvement * Increase the industry’s ability to serve diverse populations * Aid in the training and development of minority health plan managers * Develop and support of programs targeted toward minority populations * Build community partnerships between plans and other stakeholders * Provide information which will empower patients to participate in their own care and choose the most effective means of treatment The AHIP Foundation’s Executive Leadership Program(ELP), Executive Leadership Program for Medical Directors(ELP-MD), and Minority Management Development(MMD) program have helped hundreds of professionals take that next important step in their professional development. All three programs are attended by the industry’s most dynamic professionals those with a proven edge, superior skills, and an aptitude for interpreting and mastering new directions for health insurance. ELP and ELP-MD are year-long professional development programs designed exclusively for health insurance plan executives and medical directors. The programs’ combination of mentoring, classroom sessions, and site visits focus on strategic management and techniques needed to lead tomorrow’s health insurance plans. The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University serves as the ELP Programs’ academic partner and setting for one of the academic sessions. The MMD program strengthens the profile of executive leadership through recruitment and training of talented middle-managers who reflect the ethnic diversity of the communities you serve. AHIP Foundation’s academic partner, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and their newly established Carey Business School, has customized a management program that provides your staff with the tools necessary to ascend to senior-level positions.
