Branch Brook School opened in 1924 and was a school for handicapped children. In the mid 1990s the school became a PreK-4 school with general education students and special education students. Branch Brook School is recognized as a school with high student achievement, model inclusionary practices, and a climate that is nurturing and team oriented. The school has won numerous awards for school excellence including the National Blue Ribbon Award. Branch Brook School has high expectations for its students and its state standardized test results are among the best in New Jersey. 100% of the 3rd and 4th graders passed all parts of the NJ Ask the only school in Newark to accomplish this feat. The school has a true partnership between staff, students and parents. Each day the parents communicate with the staff so that each child gets the personal attention they need. The school staff has many model teachers and they analyze data to inform their instruction. All instructional lessons are aligned to the NJ CCCS and the school has many innovative programs to enhance student learning. Some of the rigorous programs include: Childrens Literacy Initiative, Wilson Reading, Young Writers Project, NASA and NJF 3D View/Project SPRINTT and Special Olympics. Our school is involved in numerous reading programs that promote the love of reading and offer incentives for reaching reading goals. It is the goal of Branch Brook School to provide the educational foundation for its students to be successful.
