New-born Panda birthed after Chinese Earthquake

After a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 on the rictar scale struck the Sichuan province on May 12, no new panda births had been reported. It was not until July 7th, when a pair of panda twins was born. Guo is the first Panda to give birth since the earthquake, one cub being weighed in at 6 ounces at birth. Scientists were unable to weigh the other without interfering with the mother’s need to nurse it. The sex of the twins themselves were not given. Twelve-year-old Guo Guo was moved to the Bifengxia panda center after the quake caused heavy damages at the Wolong Nature Reserve, China’s main panda breeding center where Guo Guo normally lives.The cubs were born there.The Wolong preserve is at the heart of China’s gargantuan effort to use captive breeding and artificial insemination to save the endangered giant panda, which is revered as an unofficial national mascot.
