History of the Event and Goals
This event has come to be one of the financial community’s most widely attended events.
Over the past two years, it has raised a combined $225,000 and has successfully raised awareness for the beneficiary organization, its mission, and the sacrifices that are made each day by the families of our troops and of our fallen.
Last year alone, the event had over 1,100 attendees and raised nearly $125,000. This year, our goal is to expand on past years’ successes as we aim to raise $1,000,000. We intend to reach our goal by securing several corporate sponsorships ranging from $12,500/sponsor to $35,000/sponsor and by ensuring that the event has no fewer than 1,800 attendees. We are already well on our way – we have a number of commitments from potential sponsors exceeding $600,000. With a Planning and Support Committee consisting of 71 members representing over 60 hedge funds and broker-dealers, the Wounded Warriors Family Support Initiative sets an entirely new precedent as to how the New York nancial community gives back to our nation’s troops, and their families.
This monumental and ground-breaking support is what has allowed the Wounded Warriors Family Support Initiative Committee to involve Musical Entertainment Group The Roots, fashion label Celestino Couture, individual service members of the U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam War Veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Captain Paul ‘Bud’ Bucha, America’s Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez, International DJ DJRB, professional athletes, television personalities and other celebrity guests.
The evening will also include a silent auction featuring premium items, such as: courtside seats to an upcomng New York Knicks game, Fighter Pilot for the Day Experience in Chicago, table for four at famous Raos in New York City, Callaway Golf Club tting experience at the Carlsbad, CA headquarters, tickets to attend the Annual Halloween Party at the Playboy Mansion, tickets to attend the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Show in LA, and much more.
In addition to the event’s incredible corporate sponsorships and silent auction pieces, the Wounded Warriors Family Support Initiative Committee has also facilitated the involvement of 15 top-shelf beer, wine and spirits sponsors — Making the Wounded Warriors Family Support Initiative — An Evening Aboard the Intrepid one of the most supported, and anticipated events in New York City.
The mission of the Wounded Warriors Family Support is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. The families of our casualties suffer in many ways: some financially, some psychologically.
Wounded Warriors Family Support mitigates their trauma by allowing them to find peace and solace as a family once more in family-friendly resorts that the organization provides free of charge. The resort condominium that the organization owns
in Orlando, Florida provides quiet havens where war torn families can reunite and become stronger. Founded by John D. Folsom — Colonel, United States Marine Corps, Reserve, the Wounded Warriors Family Support provides and honorable way to give back to those who have given so much to our nation.
Our Mission
On Thursday, June 16th, 2011, just three and a half miles from
Ground Zero aboard one of the nation’s most distinguished aircraft
carriers, we will be hosting the Wounded Warriors Family Support
Initiative at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. This event comes at a pivotal time in our nation’s history — a time when our armed forces are serving our flag abroad upon multiple fronts, while their families patiently awaiting their return, oftentimes at the great peril of devastating news. This is our time to give back. On the evening of June 16th, we will show our troops and their families that they are not alone; that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed; that we stand by them, feel for their losses, and are indebted to them now and forever for their honorable service to our country.
In many parts of the world, soldiers wreak havoc upon innocents they ought to protect. They would rather suppress freedom than fight to defend it. They command respect and acquire power through the brute force of arms, rather than by the strength of their good example. Oftentimes sanctioned by those at the helm of government, they deny their own people the human rights and dignities that they themselves enjoy. Unlike them, our troops live to uphold their oaths of service to this country. They fight for the ideals upon which America was founded and the principles that are enshrined in our Constitution, staying true to a long and noble history of sacrifice for a higher calling. Resigning the pleasures of everyday life, they have chosen to rise up and protect our great nation. They seek neither riches nor recognition, and have chosen only to serve a flag for which they would happily fall. They are the defenders of freedom – our freedom.
On the evening of June 16th, we honor our troops and their families by asking you to rise up in their support. Join us. Let us show them that we are honored by their sacrifices and that they will always be remembered as heroes by those they leave at home.
