“Beyond Words must be held up as a paragon of publishing in the American Pacific. From the publication of the bestseller The Hidden Messages in Water in 2004 to the phenomenal success of The Secret in the fall of 2006, Beyond Words Publishing is known as one of the foremost Mind, Body, and Spirit publishers in the world. As a global leader in identifying and publishing visionary media from high-quality books to audio books, thought-provoking films and music we’re proud to share our growth with the world. To celebrate and reflect this growth, we will be premiering a new look and lots of new features at this site over the next few months. We look forward to the many ways we can continue to be “Partners in Transformation” with our co-publisher, Atria Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster), with our authors, with the booksellers we serve, and most of all, with our readers. While our image may be changing, our values have not. At Beyond Words, our books are expressions of who we are as people, the values we hold, and the actions we take to bring our goals to light. We want to inspire people though our work inspire them to gain wholeness and completeness for themselves, and to learn, grow, and find solutions. Twenty-five years ago we began Beyond Words with no publishing experience. Today, we count over 250 titles published, nearly 10 million books in print, and even more lives changed with the expansion of our new media distribution opportunities. We created our company based on the central belief in the power of collaboration, essentially creating a new paradigm for the way books can be published and produced. Traditionally, an artist brings his or her ideas to a publisher, signs a contract, and virtually does not see the work again until the book is designed, typeset, and printed. At Beyond Words, we value collaboration and invite the author to be a part of the process of creation. Clearly, wed hit upon something that worked, and we soon attracted authors who knew that their projects could be handled with respect and confidence. When we started publishing in 1983, we made a commitment to excellence. Our intention was to produce the finest books that had ever been done and to approach the subject matter in an unlimited way without compromise. What evolved was a synergy and a magic that not only produced magnificent books, but that also gave birth to a company and a mission. The secret to our success was that we didn’t have any preconceived ideas about what wasn’t possible. We didn’t have any nagging voices in the backs of our heads saying, “You shouldn’t,” or “You can’t.” We weren’t afraid to fail, because we didn’t know what failure looked like. We approached it as a labor of love, rather than a commercial venture. And when our first book, Within A Rainbowed Sea, was done somehow we created this miraculous book that has won over thirty awards, has been used as a presidential gift of state, and is included in three presidential libraries. In 1987, we published our first non-fiction book, Seeing Without Glasses, which has gone into revised second and third editions. One year later we published our first children’s title, Davy’s Dream. Over the years, we’ve narrowed our focus to bringing only the best of non-fiction for adults in the field of Mind, Body, and Spirit, which includes spiritual lifestyles, science & spirit, spiritual parenting, holistic health & healing, and global native wisdom. Our books have been published in over 36 languages, from Korean and Chinese to Slovakian, Estonian, and Thai. We count among our lists dozens of bestsellers and future bestsellers, and our talent for choosing new and emerging authors, filmmakers, and artists hasn’t changed. We published Dr. John Gray’s book Men, Women and Relationships in 1989, sold over 600,000 copies. Wisdomkeepers and Raising a Son have also sold over 200,000 copies each. Dr. Emoto’s books including Hidden Messages in Water, The True Power of Water, and The Secret Life of Water have collectively sold over 600,000 copies. We’re proud to see the ideas we stand behind finding their place in the world, and we’re delighted to do what we lovecreating books that can transform the way people think about their lives and the world around them and media that further opens the doors of inquiry. We’ll continue to bring you the best, and bring it to you first.
