Celebrity Dentist and Oral Surgeon Dr. Gregg Lituchy Discusses National Survey Showing Americans are Neglecting Nighttime Health & Oral Hygiene After a long day at the office, do you reach for your cell phone or your gym bag? A new national survey, shows that Americans nights are busier than ever before, often at the expense of their health, particularly their oral health. More than half of people surveyed said they dont feel like they have the free time in the evenings that they had five years ago, and 80 percent agree that Americans are working longer days than ever before. When they do have downtime, caring for health is far from first on peoples list: On average, Americans spend twice as much time in the evening watching television than working out or keeping fit (8 vs. 4 hours per week). Topping the list of most neglected nighttime rituals is brushing your teeth, which 34 percent of Americans admit to having forgotten to do on a busy night. In the survey, Americans cite money, family, health and work as top items contributing to overall stress at night; and overall Sunday night is the most stressful night of the week for busy Americans. April is National Stress Awareness Month and a great time to step back and take the time to focus on ourselves. In particular, nighttime is the perfect opportunity to improve healthy rituals and routines because this is when your body restores and replenishes itself. Taking care of oral health at night is especially important because your mouth is vulnerable to plaque and gingivitis germs at night, as they breed while you sleep. Dr. Gregg Lituchy will shed light on what happens in your mouth during the critical hours of sleep and offer oral tips to keep your mouth in tip top condition and help busy, stressed out Americans have a healthy productive night.
