EVENT: DEAF STUDENTS RECEIVE SURPRISE OF A LIFETIME WHEN HARLEM GLOBETROTTER DELIVERS IMPORTANT MESSAGE IN SIGN LANGUAGE

DETAILS: Harlem Globetrotters star Chris “Animal” Hyche will use his sign language skills to surprise Long Island students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Hyche grew up learning sign language as the son of two deaf parents. He will join teammates Zeus McClurkin and Hoops Green to present the team’s T.E.A.M. Up at School program when they visit Mill Neck School for the Deaf.
The Globetrotters created the school assembly with the National Campaign to Stop Violence. The program discourages bullying, cultivates empathy and assures the bullied that they are not alone. T.E.A.M. stands for Talk, Empathy, Ask, and Mobilize. Wednesday will be the first time a Globetrotters’ assembly will be partially presented in sign language by one of the stars of the team.
The Globetrotters are in New York City, North Jersey, and Long Island giving back to the community and preparing for their new Fan Powered World Tour, which will bring seven games throughout the area from Dec. 27-31. The full schedule is available at www.HarlemGlobetrotters.com/NYC.
