NEWSLETTER
AUGUST 17, 2020
Welcome to the 15th issue of our community newsletter—created to bring you all the news of what’s going on around Montauk—to keep us informed, connected, and safe. Look for our next issue on August 31st. If you have Montauk community information to share, please email our Development Director, Julia McCormack at: jmccormack@montaukplayhouse.org and we’ll do our best to include it in the next issue!
OUR MONTAUK SWIM CHALLENGE IS UNDERWAY!
It’s time to jump in and “Get Wet for a Good Cause”! Our virtual Montauk Swim Challenge kicked off on Saturday, August 15 and runs through Saturday, August 22 (see event details, below). You can still register, right up to the last day of the Challenge, just click here. As you swim your laps and log your miles, make sure to to tag us in your social media posts: @montaukplayhouse and use the hashtags #montaukplayhouse and #montaukswimchallenge
KEEP CALM AND GO CLAMMING
…just make sure you have the right permit, first! The Town of East Hampton reminds us that shellfish permits are required and available to residents, entitling the permit holder to bring along a child or guest. To obtain a shellfish permit application, contact the Town Clerk’s office at 631-324-4142 or click here. Happy clamming!
RESPOND TO THE 2020 CENSUS BY SEPTEMBER 30
Our local officials and community advocates are asking East Hampton Town residents to make sure to complete their census forms. The response rate in many Montauk neighborhoods has been very low. An accurate count is very important for making sure our community receives adequate funding for education, fire departments, health clinics, roads, housing and more. MINDFUL MONTAUKERS MASK UP
The friendly folks at John’s Drive-In posted this colorful photo to remind us that if the big tiki guy can do it—you can, too! Face masks are mandated indoors and in outdoor public places where social distancing isn’t possible. Frontline workers at our local shops, restaurants, and businesses are doing a great job keeping all of us safe—return the favor and help keep them safe by wearing a mask.
AQUATICS & CULTURAL ARTS
MONTAUK SWIM CHALLENGE | Our virtual Swim Challenge is taking place now through Aug. 22. There are three distance categories (1/2 mile, 1 mile, 5K) for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Participants seek personal sponsors for their swim, swim their chosen distance, and log their results online. We invite the entire community to participate—this is an especially fun summer activity for kids and families! To register, click here.
MUSIC FOR MONTAUK | Although live performances aren’t possible this summer, Music for Montauk recently shared a lovely virtual performance of Vivaldi’s “Summer,” featuring Guillaume Pirard on violin, Monica Davis on violin, Jessica Meyer on viola, and Caleb van der Swaagh on cello. To view, click here. They’ll also be sharing a live virtual performance by the Overlook Quartet on August 28. This nonprofit organization has provided quality musical performances to Montauk for more than 30 years. To learn more, visit their website: musicformontauk.org
