Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to” where have I read that?
Talking of Santa Claus, Father Christmas I do not think there is any harm in not believing in a figure that many do acknowledge to be a fiction, a character in one’s imagination. Santa is not just a whimsical character dressed in a bright red suit with a groomed white beard and affects a jolly demeanour.
He is a symbol, a symbol of the human ability to be able to suppress the selfish and hateful tendencies that rule the major part of our lives. If you can’t believe or accept anything on faith then you’re doomed to a life dominated by doubt.
Father Christmas is based on the real life Saint Nicholas, whose feast day is celebrated on the 5th of December.
Whose birthday do we celebrate every year on the 25th of December? I need not ask as we all know who. We have been celebrating His coming for over 2000 years! The coming of the light in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago. We give gifts to family, friends at this time of year, what shall we give to the little Jesus who is in the manger far far away in the Holy Land? We know he received gifts from the Kings who travelled a long way to offer their respects and prayers to the new born King but what shall we give Him today in the second millennium after his birth?
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous & Healthy New Year
