Ann Marie Yali, associate professor at the City College of New York, became a volunteer with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in February of this year as part of team in training. Team in training is the world’s largest endurance training program that raises money for cancer research, education, and patient services. Ann Marie trained for the Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage Alaska to help support the cause. A marathon is 26.2 miles and this particular course included 8 miles of rocky trails. The race was held on June 23 and over 1100 participants were there on behalf of Team in Training programs across the nation. Along the route, many participants spotted willife – moose, bald eagle, even a black bear cub. It was a run that won’t soon be forgotten.
