I wrote a poem in 1984 at age 37 and my son wrote one off of mine at age 22…… It’s kind of cute how a mother spoke of success and then how my son wrote a poem reflecting from it. We were born to succeed, not to fail.” –Thoreau (submitted by Cheryl Switzer)
DREAMERS WE ARE!
Mother & Son
DREAMER by Cheryl Lee Switzer (1984)
They say that I’m a dreamer.
That I live in a fantasy world.
There are those who downright hate me,
And are jealous that I could:
Keep right on surviving,
Enduring more than most.
Why is it I’m so fortunate?
To them I shall boast.
Yes, I’m a vivid dreamer.
I close my eyes yet see.
Many wonderful sights,
Of the way our lives could be.
I am a daring person,
Like many who follow my lead.
So non-believers, be aware,
Even in failure, I shall succeed.
WE by Stewart R. Switzer (March 11, 2002)
Is We a vivid dreamer
in need of motivation?
Or is We a hero
seeking a reputation?
Do We fight for survival
or a quest for pleasure?
Or can We accomplish fame
by finding a buried treasure?
Now hear We out
our passion starts the fire.
You, nonbelievers, followers
can’t comprehend our desire.
We aspire to be great
while you excel to be seldom.
We have no limits or horizons
and seek to build our own kingdom.
But don’t hear We wrong
it is not about being correct.
We seek appreciation
for what our sacrifices reflect.
We inspire the visionaries.
We steer the victors.
We create eminence.
We manipulate the creators.
We are the daring.
We are the mistakers
You may be the vivid dreamer,
but we are the risk takers.
With our passion and fire,
with our might – We will bleed
you will never see – We coming
even in failure, We shall succeed.
