Sojourner Media House Indonesia’s Malam Kesatuan / Night of Unity Series
On Jan 7th 2013, a fresh, innovative, first-of-its-kind company launches in Balikpapan, Indonesia. It is a for-profit international philanthropic advertising company-that produces mega humanitarian events to gain and leverage a media platform- the entity being exclusively formed in efforts to create a mechanism of raising, year-after year, ongoing funds for The Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia).
Their fresh new market approach has been designed to always donate 100% of event ticket sales to the company’s sole beneficiary, PMI, and to generate company revenue (to launch future series) through corporate cause-marketing partnerships with select positive and socially responsible corporations.
The name of this new, for-benefit, Indonesian company is Sojourner Media House Indonesia, and it launches it inaugural fundraising campaign through the production of the Malam Kesatuan / Night of Unity series, a 3 event / 5 concert, stadium-venue tour; with major shows across Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia (a region more widely known as Borneo.)
The three humanitarian events (carried out over the 21 month campaign) will be held in an attempt to raise 10 Million US dollars for Palang Merah Indonesia- in efforts to humbly acknowledge and assist PMI- for the vital and seemingly ceaseless aid relief efforts they have been conducting at some of the world’s worst disaster affected areas in recorded history (the Indian Ocean Tsunami, the Sumatran Earthquake, the Mt Merapi Volcano, the J.W Marriot bombing- just to mention a very few from a tragically disaster-prone last decade.)
Says Isaac Allen, President Commissioner of Sojourner Media House Indonesia, “Having grown up in Balikpapan, Indonesia has always been a large part of my life- and heart- and when my four partners and I began discussing how we could assist Palang Merah Indonesia through raising large scale and ongoing funds (a life long passion for all partners,)-also incorporating music and culture, our thoughts were inspired by a Harvard Business Review article: (The For-Benefit Enterprise- http://hbr.org/2011/11/the-for-benefit-enterprise/ar/1). We knew that if we truly wanted to assist PMI for the long term- we’d need to operate using a sustainable business model. This is why we ultimately opted to create a hybrid organization; combining an advertising company’s revenue structure, with a humanitarian concert 501(c)3’s mission. The sponsorship market is Indonesia is overwhelming, as is the Indonesian public’s desire for musical concerts (and the desire to support the PMI cause), and we saw this current situation as a potent opportunity to join Corporate with Cause through Community- to really attempt a high impact approach to recognizing and supporting PMI’s incredible feats of disaster relief work and aid across the archipelago.”
The Malam Kesatuan / Night of Unity series are to be held in the 2013-1014 year- with the inaugural event at Balikpapan’s 20,000 seat Persiba Stadium on Sept 14th 2013, then a two day event at Samarinda’s 60,000 seat Palaran Stadium on March 15/16th 2014, and then the finale of the series, another two day event, to be hosted at the 40,000 seat Batakan Stadium in Balikpapan.
All three events of the Malam Kesatuan / Night of Unity series will features some of the world’s most recognized and well known artists and celebrities (Indonesian and International), in addition to always presenting a world-class multi-faceted presentation on PMI’s crucial work and achievements (To include; a videography display, a gamelan orchestra, Kalimantanese dancers, and celebrity narrators.)
The events will likely reach an even wider audience than stadium venue viewers alone, as some of Asia’s largest media groups have already expressed interest in live-broadcasting the events- which will heavily increase the yield for PMI through Sojourner Media House Indonesia’s parallel television text-in donation drive.
Speaking in his native Indonesian, Fahadzaki Sjadzali, President Director of SMHI elaborates on the music side of the business, “Music is power. We know it. It literally changes us physiologically- it alters our dopamine. What we humbly attempt to do is join in with others, already deep in efforts, and work to change the live music paradigm; to create a new cultural (and corporate) environment- one in which all major concerts are humanity driven, community supported, and corporate and investor funded. Knowing music has the power to alter mindsets, gives us the belief that music has a real other avenue of power as well- to do physical, tangible good in the world- a world that needs continued shared concern and a collaborated effort to unify and repair.”
