Hi my name is Jane Droll; I am a wife and mother. I am also a weaver, a spinner, a shepherd. I am a maker of art quilts, a sewer, a dyer, and I design and sell handmade bags. My business is called adrollbag but my bigger job is taking care of my family. My husband David has worked on the railroad forever and hopes to retire and help me with my business some day soon and we have four semi-adult children that I am constantly helping as they are starting their own lives and careers. Then there are the four sheep, four dogs and four cats. We live on five acres with a nice ranch home and a cool barn in the heart of Ohio’s Fairfield County— prime farm land which is very pastoral, beautiful and inspiring. I have a studio in my home and in the barn connected to the cats’ apartment. I started out making traditional quilts and moved on to art quilting for the creative challenge of making my own designs. It was my love of fabric that drove me forward to explore and learn all about the process of how it is made. Now I am raising the sheep for the fiber, cleaning and carding it, which prepares it for dyeing and spinning; then I weave, or knit it into usable fabric. This is my “sheep to shoulder” project. The material that is woven on my looms can be made into many different items but my favorite is a collection of handbags and purses that I have designed and sell to help keep the whole process going. I display and sell my bags, yarns, scarves, and quilts at different shows around Ohio and have recently ventured online with Etsy and my own website: www.adrollbag.com.
I will be selling my bags, etc. at the Earth Gathering in Chillicothe, Ohio April 21st and currently have bags for sale at Savvy on a Shoestring in Columbus. In a world where all items worn and used are made overseas, I believe in and enjoy bringing it all home. http://www.savvyonashoestring.com/ & www.adrollbag.com
