Another Esteemed Actor Volunteers to Support Children’s Literacy Effort
Annette Bening has joined the list of illustrious readers promoting children’s literacy through the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s Storyline Online video website storylineonline.net.
Like previous volunteers James Earl Jones, Sean Astin, Betty White, Robert Guillaume, Elijah Wood and former Vice-President Al Gore, Ms. Bening lends her voice to a new children’s book: The Tooth, by Avi Slodovnick. Illustrated by Manon Gauthier and published by Kane Miller EDC Publishing, The Tooth has been critically praised for the straightforward and child-friendly way it addresses the difficult topics of need, empathy, and generosity. The book joins a collection of award-winning children’s books provided by Storyline Online.
SAG Foundation Executive Director, Jill Seltzer, says, “We are honored to include Ms. Bening’s recording as the 25th book of our program. Storyline Online continues to inspire a love of reading in millions of children worldwide.”
Available all times of the week, the site receives over one million views per month from educators, parents and children around the world—showcasing videos that capture the illustrations, colors and textures of each book. For each book, the site provides a supplemental curriculum developed by an early literacy specialist that aims to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners worldwide.
Through the help of tax-deductable contributions, Storyline Online ensures that every child with access to an Internet connection can benefit from the written word.
The SAG Foundation is honored to recognize Annette Bening’s commitment to Storyline Online, and encourages like-minded individual and corporate donors to play a part in the crucial promotion of children’s literacy as provided by the Foundation.
