Up to 2 dozen writers will be accepted, apply for free! How to APPLY. What began as a line in Alexander Chee’s interview in PEN Ten and was fueled by Twitter, is now an official Amtrak program. As many of you may know by now, our test-run for Amtrak Residency was done by Manhattan-based writer Jessica Gross, whose piece, ‘Writing The Lakeshore Limited’ was published in February by The Paris Review. What followed was overwhelming support on Twitter and in the media with #AmtrakResidency being featured in The Wire, The New Yorker, & Huffington Post among others. Today we are happy to announce that #AmtrakResidency will allow for up to 24 writers to take long-distance trains to work on their projects. Each writer’s round-trip journey will include accommodations on board a sleeper car equipped with a bed, a desk and outlets. We hope this experience will inspire creativity and most importantly fuel your sense of adventure! Round-trip train travel will be provided on an Amtrak long-distance route. Each resident will be given a private sleeper car, equipped with a desk, a bed and a window to watch the American countryside roll by for inspiration. Routes will be determined based on availability. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by a panel. Up to 24 writers will be selected for the program starting 3-17-14 through 3-31-15. A passion for writing and an aspiration to travel with Amtrak for inspiration are the sole criteria for selection. Both emerging and established writers will be considered. About/Press/Join!Re-Branding “Craft” for Today’s Market: The art world still resists welcoming “craft” into its fairs. The SOFA shows have succeeded in distinguishing craft by using words like Functional Art, Objects and Furnishings, bringing the finest work to the international art market. The Architectural Digest show established their Made section, avoiding using the word “craft,” yet handmade glass, wood, ceramics & furniture comprise the show. American Art Marketing is providing fine craft artists and designers a platform to show and sell their work at the new Contemporary Art Fair this May. The international art fairs are where you will find your new customers, trending towards a young & sophisticated audience. In May both the fairs and the buyers will be in New York for Frieze week. From a heavily talented member & her husband who have opened their home for our tour, made a video, & performed at the festival: I will soon be releasing my film “Twelfth Night” for purchase & am offering one last call for support if you would like to donate towards the project in exchange for screen credit! After this last week, I will be dropping in those last special thanks credits and finishing the film. There will still be incentives to donate after March 19th but not for screen credit. You can also show your support now…for only $10 you will get a downloadable copy of the film. Please visit the website www.12thNight.info for all the ways you can become a supporter! I am very excited to share the PREVIEW/TRAILER for the 2.5 hour film here: youtu.be/FiJsYV58fz4. This film is Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night with no cuts to the text, made easy to follow, simple, in hopes of making Shakespeare understandable with clear enunciation as well as a clear, mostly literal interpretation. Sponsor our Feature Length web production of TWELFTH NIGHT written by William Shakespeare ! Visit 12thnight.info to see the trailer & for all the info & FUN! This project has taken 2 years to complete! I began with just a whim perhaps doing a scene from Shakespeare then, it turned into possibly partnering with a few people. Turned out, I went it alone (with some help from my husband) and went full force with the idea engaging 19 actors (including myself) both new talent and seasoned professionals. Before we filmed, I held rehearsals for 2 months. During this time I had to make multiple cast replacements. So some of the cast experienced a nice hefty rehearsal period while others had very little time to prepare. I also made all the colorful costumes during this time, organized union production contracts, locations & all the other facets that go into producing a shoe-string budget indie feature length film. If you didn’t get a chance to see my video promo I sent out a few months ago, I talk a lot about the process here: http://youtu.be/I58NkXAf95o. I also have a blog I began on the website which covers a lot of info but had to discontinue it because of time. I would say that all in all I have been very lucky to have created this project as well as I did and now have a film that is complete! Nothing can be done without help! I am a person who has been pursuing the volatile field of the creative arts since I was a pre-teen. I have experienced many of the stereotypical ups and downs that this field has to offer and still have not given up on this mostly fruitless path to date (but that just may change soon with this project!). Here is one of my favorite quotes from Quintin Crisp (and one of my favorite quotes in general) which pretty much sums up my take on why I am still working at something that will one day perhaps offer me financial reward: “It’s no good running a pig farm badly for 30 years while saying, ‘Really, I was meant to be a ballet dancer.’ By then, pigs will be your style. ” Well, you see, I am the ballet dancer who has been at it for a few decades, and this is my “nutcracker”! Why do I need support for a project that is completed? Because the project needs visibility…to take everyone to the next level! Even if it is $1 or forwarding this email, that little bit helps! The creative field is one where most anything that happens is from word-of-mouth. This project offers entertainment, education & proves a film can be made by a person (me) w/a comprehensive skill set & …determination! Again, for $10 you will get a downloadable copy of the film. Every penny of your contribution will go towards our production…no middlemen – as opposed to all of the crowdfunding sites that take a percentage)! There will still be financial outputs necessary for festival entries and file transferring services; to name a few of the post-production expenses.
