Since making its concert debut at the United Nations in 2006, the New York Asian Symphony Orchestra (formerly Asian Artists & Concerts Orchestra) has achieved an outstanding reputation for quality, vitality and commitment. The international orchestra, comprised of 52 musicians with ties to various Asian countries, is now in its third year and continues to delight diverse audiences, bolstering the permeation of the arts with New York City’s Asian communities. Founded by Maestro Atsushi Yamada, the orchestra’s mission is to support young talents from different cultures and nationalities through opportunities to experience music making at a professional level through work with world-reknown soloists and performing on some of NYC’s storied stages. By providing such essential performance experiences, the ensemble allows new talents to begin building their professional credentials and reputations. Within two dynamic seasons, New York Asian Symphony Orchestra (NYASO) has performed extensively throughout New York. Recent engagements include orchestral performances at Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall, and the United Nations, the most recent of which was to celebrate the induction of South Korea’s Ban Ki-moon as the United Nations Secretary General. In addition, NYASO members have performed chamber music for various cultural centers throughout Manhattan. The valuable experience gained from working with great artists and colleagues has helped launch some of our alumni to the next stage of their professional careers. New York, with its many historical and cultural ties everywhere in the world, presents an especially challenging, competitive environment for young Asian musicians; NYASO is a vital ally and resource in their efforts to achieve their professional goals. NYASO presented by New York Asian Symphony Orchestra Inc., a NY-based non-profit organization which promotes cultural, artistic and musical excellence through its support of young musicians. http://www.nyaso.org
