One of our panels will be streamed live from Denver! You will be able watch the Women’s eNews forum with grassroots activists live on Thursday, August 28 at 2 p.m. EST, and you can access it from our Web site’s home page: http://www.womensenews.org ! Your support has really paid off! First: The Memo, our Special Report on the Status of U.S. Women, will be inserted in the official packets of all 20,000 delegates at the Democratic Convention. Now, you will be able to watch live What Women Want: Journalists and Activists Connect Stories and Solutions. Seven grassroots and national activists will tell about their successes-and what remains to be done-to address the key points of The Memo: wages, barriers to employment, poverty, reproductive health, violence and homophobia. Confirmed panelists are: Sara K. Gould, Ms. Foundation for Women; Liz Abzug, Bella Abzug Leadership Institute; Rita Smith, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Mary Kay Harris, Direct Action for Rights and Equality; Althea Francois, Safe Streets/Strong Communities and Jacinta ‘Jacy’ Montoya, Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights-and myself, representing Women’s eNews. We hope you will visit our website on Thursday at 2 p.m. EST to watch this important panel. You-our readers and soon be to be viewers-made this possible. We are thrilled so many of you jumped on board The Memo campaign, and helped cover the costs of getting to Denver. We have raised over $15,000 in just a few weeks, and are going to this important event knowing you are behind us! And please, if you haven’t given yet, please consider making a donation today. Our operation is tight and our strategies inexpensive. But airfares, printing, and travel add up, and our staff will be dedicated to Convention coverage for two straight weeks. We are there to get the word out about The Memo. We will also host a second panel on August 27 with members of Congress titled: They Got the Memo: Members of Congress Reveal How They Push a Pro-Women Agenda. Our very special guests will be : Congressmembers Lois Capps (CA), Rosa DeLauro (CT), Carolyn Maloney (NY), Gwen Moore (WI), Loretta Sanchez (CA), Allyson Schwartz (PA), and Jan Schakowsky (IL). Women’s eNews is co-hosting this panel with Carol Jenkins, executive director of the Women’s Media Center We are still working with Republican officials to make similar plans for the Minneapolis convention, and are looking at how we will distribute The Memo there as well. These panels-and reaching out to both sides of the aisle-reinforce what we need to do. Women have to work together across the country to raise our collective status and bring together the combined efforts of national leaders, community activists, and journalists who will continue to cover stories the rest of media will not even touch. Your support has been an incredible encouragement! Please check our site over the next two weeks for blogs, photos, and videos from the conventions. And, please consider making a contribution of $100, $250 or whatever you can do to help Women’s eNews cover the conventions and Deliver The Memo.
